The Undying is the final boss in the game Final Fantasy XII. It is formed when the Venat-powered Vayne assimilates components of the Sky Fortress Bahamut on his body after he is weakened by the party. It is fitting that his form is draconic as the Sky Fortress's namesake is the recurring summon of Final Fantasy, Bahamut, called the "King of Dragons".

[edit] Battle

Strictly speaking he isn't as threatening as other Optional Bosses/Marks, but still, do not underestimate The Undying, you cannot see his life bar so you don't really know when he is going to die. Take note: don't re-buff everybody with all the good statuses, since The Undying can cast piercing Dispelga. Only cast important buffs such as Protect/Protectga or Hastega. In his first form, he mostly casts Piercing Magicks, such as: Piercing Firaga, Piercing Blizzaga, and Piercing Thundaga so feel free to cast Shell/Shellga on all your characters. His strongest magick, Mega-Flare hits about 3000 and above, simply heal. When he uses his first special attack, Ascension, he will change his strategy a little. Now he'll focus on using his "arm cannon", which hits about 2000 and above per hit. Be noted that the "arm cannon" are Gun-typed, which means it ignores your defense. If you buff in his firing range, he'll simply cast Piercing Dispelga on you, when you drain 25% of his HP, he'll start to build a Magick Barrier, which negates all Magick you throw at him. After depleting another 25% he'll cast a Physical Paling, negating all your physical attacks. After he completes the paling, he'll start to buff himself. When his HP is depleted 75%, he'll use his second special attack, Gigaflare Sword and uses "perfect defense": a Paling and Magick Shield. He'll now combine all his attacks, using his standard attacks, casting Piercing Magick and special attacks. His Perfect Defense period is very long so during his paling focus on healing and buffing your characters rather than attacking him. Just as his defenses fade, he readies his final special attacks, Tetra Flare, which hits about 4000 and above. Continue attacking him until he flashes red. This means he's going down. When he's flashing red, his defense grows, you can then either damage him with guns to quicken the fight, or just continue attacking him until he falls.
