Despite Final Fantasy VIII not featuring character themes the same way previous installments did, "The Man with the Machine Gun" is widely associated with Laguna Loire, not only due to referring to his weapon of choice, but also because it only plays when he is playable.
In its debut, "The Man with the Machine Gun" is a secondary battle theme, replacing "Don't Be Afraid" during the dream sequences in which Squall and his team assume the roles of Laguna Loire, Kiros Seagill, and Ward Zabac.
