The Tezcatlipoca is an enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. It spawns on the north-eastern platform of Academia 500 AF and is the rare encounter on this spot. The platform can spawn Tezcatlipoca or Miquiztli and Xolotl; only one group can be defeated until the player closes the Academia 500 AF gate and starts again from the beginning. Thus, every enemy in Academia 500 AF cannot be captured in one run-through of the area.

As Tezcatlipoca is the rarer encounter, the player can hop off the platform if they get the wrong set of enemies, causing them to vanish. This process can be repeated until Tezcatlipoca spawns. The player can also save before fighting Tezcatlipoca and reload if they fail to capture it.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Unlike its brethren, Tezcatlipoca appears alone. It will use Nature's Blessing on itself to restore HP and remove status ailments, making staggering it essential. Its Bellow attack removes status enhancements from the party and inflicts status ailments, while its regular attacks inflict Slow and Daze.

Paradigm Pack[]

Tezcatlipoca's Feral Link skill, Raging Torrent, is the only means of applying the Debrave and Defaith status effects. It also applies the Provoke status, and all three of the status effects Serah and Noel cannot inflict with spells: Fog, Pain and Curse.

Tezcatlipoca is the only creature with the Auto-Tetradefense passive ability available for infusion (Grand Behemoth has it, but it is red-locked). Auto-Tetradefense casts Protect, Shell, Veil, and Vigilance at the start of combat. The passive abilities Resist Magic +36% and Resist Physical +36% are prized enough by players that they are included in a large percentage of the innumerable creature 'builds' posted online, and Tezcatlipoca has both of them without infusion.

Auto-Tetradefense, along with Resist Elements +30% and Auto-Haste, are the only three abilities with the highest (ninth) rank, so they can never be replaced by other abilities.

It requires 66 grade three Biological (Orb) monster materials to advance to level 20; 155 grade four Essences to maximum level of 60.
