In lieu of possible use on pages like List of Final Fantasy XIII Weapons (hey, most newbies don't know how to fix tables, and most regulars use Monobook/don't care — hence, we have pages that fail in Oasis ... nearly a year and a half after its release :/ ) I was wondering if it would be worth it to add a parameter that added this tidbit:
Yes, I know it's unprofessional, but it beats forcing anons to view the page in default Oasis. Or maybe come up with a seperate mantainence template for stuff Oasis breaks -- don't even bother with{{cleanup}}? | |||

^Erm, explanation of why not?^
Yea, Cat, anything that stops people from viewing that monstrosity (or at least notifies them how bad it is). I was stuck with oasis for months, and didn't even know there was another skin until someone else told me.

- Oasis is not a monstrosity, it is the default skin and the only skin any viewer has any reason to care about. 79.69.195.160 14:44, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I was clear about what I was suggesting. I'm not trying to force viewers to use Monobook. I'm just suggesting this is added because not everyone knows how or is willing to fix tables for Oasis, and if a table is broken in Oasis, then logically we should give viewers an alternative until it's fixed. According to Talk:List of Final Fantasy XIII Weapons that page was first discovered as broken 8 months ago. Our community tends to take a while to fix things for Oasis.
- I don't see how this is any different then putting "our staff can't be arsed to code for Oasis. Click here" on DNC fights that go foobar when faced with a fixed width, but that's just me. Cat 16:34, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I'm concerned, monobook should never even be mentioned.
- Pages should be fixed, we shouldn't need to offer a substitute.
- And therefore offering this substitution is really just offering an excuse not to change it.
- The difference between this and the DNC is the initial intention of adding the thing to the DNC was to get the people who put up the fight to fix it, while putting a snide remark*.Obviously they don't give a fuck that the DNC is barely accessible to a large number of people.... But DNC is mainly aimed at users so it effects less people than the mainspace.*

- But I wouldn't have much of an issue if this problem didn't only occur on one page. I can't think anywhere else that suffers with no-space tables. There are a number of cramped tables, but they're still visible. 79.69.205.189 16:56, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- That page isn't the only one broken by Oasis. I could try to find more. I remember back when I was an anon and then when I was a newbie who didn't know how to fix it or complain I'd come across one every so often. Then I discovered Monobook and forgot all about it. When I returned to Oasis last month, I couldn't remember which pages were broken by Oasis. If I come across them again, then I'll do my best to fix them.
- As for "every editor should be using [Oasis]", I don't like this POV at all, mostly because we should be glad that they're editing at all. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree there — or force DNC fights into 643px, which is always an option, though not one that would work easily Cat 17:03, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- No page has been "broken" by Oasis. Any pages that don't look right in Oasis, also don't look right on monitors with low screen resolutions. I am in full agreement with JBed in that We don't need to show a substitute to Monobook on any page on this site whatsoever. Not on Mainspace, not on the DNC, not on walkthroughs, not anywhere. It's just an excuse for lazy formatting. And those who use Monobook must check on Oasis when making any formatting changes, such as changing widths of table columns.
- I've got a better idea, instead of having a link that make it go to Monobook, instead make a link that gets it to go to Oasis. Jeppo (Talk | contribs) 18:29, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- We could add
**{{SERVER}}{{localurl:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|useskin=oasis}}|View in Oasis
- to the sidebar. 79.69.205.189 19:49, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
