I wanna see a male viera! Any pics to go with that info, Blue?
It'd be interesting, but all I can imagine is that the rabbit features would be downplayed. Maybe the males look more like Hares. :P
Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping... TALK - 23:53, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I imagine they have bigger tufts of hair on their ears and more claw-like hands and feet. The female viera hands and feet have claws, but they're so dainty looking. I wonder if they would still wear the high-heels... :P
Unfortunately for us all, I've yet to find a male viera. But maybe that viera you see in the opening movie, when ashe was looking at rasler before he went to war, is a male? It does look a bit more masculine, eh?
For fun, I checked Wikipedia about the differences in Rabbits and Hares, and if Viera females are based on rabbits, and if males are based on Hares, then male Viera:
| |||
Awesome to see or not...I'm pretty sure I keep on reading that Viera are a female only race.
I think the Viera in the opening video is a male. It definitely looks like a male, and it has black hair instead of white or silver.
http://xii.venusgospel.net/gallery/albums/screens/ff12_01_op_046.jpg Look at that, on the left of Ashe. I think anon is on to something there. I didn't see any other viera whose hair is black besides the one in the opening movie! Do you?
I was about to post that picture and say the following: If you'd stop looking at her hair and look at her chest, you'd see one of her breasts. Sorry to say, it's a girl.
And even though it is a girl...I don't think its a Viera. Just because she's darkskinned like the Viera doesn't mean she's one of them. Possibly a sun tanned Hume, or a half breed thats lacking ears. If its a Viera, its only enough to give her a tan. And still....I am almost positive that alot of sources say Viera's are a female only race
It is a Viera, the zoom-out shots of her clearly show her with the signature ears. Also, those sources you've seen have nothing on the Ultimania, which states there are males. They just live separately from the females it says.
Yha...its just kinda strange that theres a BlackHaired Viera. Ohwell, she's probably just a halfbreed (like the little bunny in RW that I can't remember the name of). And she probably died anyway. And about Ultimania...yha, I can't read Japenese and I've never heard of it before I came here, so if anything I say is wrong, its because of that.
Crazyswordsman - Final Fantasy VI, because Drake says he wants to link to FF7 every day, which is bad because that game is so far inferior to FF6. TALK - 18:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Where are the bunny ears? Viera never wear them down.
I agree with CSM here. Which was why I guessed she was just a tanned/dark skinned Hume.
Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping... TALK - 18:11, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm thinking the white columns over her head are her ears. Do you see them? They look kind of like rays of light, but I think they're just white bunny ears. She has a Viera-ish face, too, if you know what I mean. I hope you do, since I can't think of how to explain that.
I admit that I see the bunny ears. However...the Viera face is not there. There hair is alot more silky, and the face doesn't look like most Viera's (if her mouth was open, we'd see if she had a bunny tooth). So like I said, possible half breed.
EDIT CONFLICT: It is a Viera, and a Dalmascan general to boot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/diablocon/Viera1.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/diablocon/Viera2.png Not the best, I know, but those are quite clearly Viera ears. Also, in Blue's picture, her ears happen to be those white stripes above her head.
Umm...I was not aware this was an eddit conflict like thing. And ok, she's a Viera. But still, black hair must be rather unique. So possibly a halfbreed.
Yeap, LaZodiac may be right. I recall the Viera-Hume lover sidequest and thought, maybe she's an example product of that. Result? Not a male viera.
Viera with different coloured hair is not unheard of though. Right in the opening FMV, the two Viera that look up the way, one of them has orange hair if I remember correctly. Check YouTube, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have white hair anyway. Plus, she could have just dyed her hair maybe?
Although I've never seen the orange haired one, I do know they can be diffirent colores. However...the darkest I've ever seen on a full bloos Viera is purple (due to FFTA). So dyeing her hair is very very possible. And thanks for the support Blue. Still...perhaps the male Viera is...to busy to be seen? I know its dumb of me to think, but maybe the fact that there seems to be much more females then males (if they had plenty of male warriors, we would see them) means that there chromazones are more Y angled. Meaning any males are put into safety and taught...the ways of Balthier (stuiped way of putting it, but chances are your all smarter then me and as such understand what I, a 15 year old girl, mean by that)
I do believe the Ultimania, and, another source (called FFTA2 booklet) says this: "登場しているのは女性のみ", which I would translate as: "Appearance as female only", and before that it says that this race is called the wood-people. And that kinda confirms also that the male don't appear, but it's hard for me to believe that they are even true. Also the Gria-part of the booklet says the same thing about them, which would mean that those males are hiding somewhere, too. Confusing..
Is that the full context? It can be understood as "only females have appeared" too.
Well it does say more. Besides those things it says the same old things: long sleek bodies, resemble the humes. The same thing is at the official FFTA2 site.

It never states anything about male Viera in the games (although this page states the males live in separate areas which is never mentioned in the game). They also refer to each other as "sisters" which is not unusual for women to say, but it could mean that they are all siblings. Maybe the Green Wood is a god and created them? No one, not even Vaan questions the obvious lack of male Viera. I say that male Viera don't exist until there is undeniable proof that they exist.
For those whose keep saying that Dark skin tone Vieras are males, see these> There are two kind of Vieras the ones from the left, Dark skin and hair, are the Rava Vieras and the others from the right, white/blonde hair and light skin, are Veena Vieras. So stop saying that the one who appeared at the start with Dark hair is a male, because is not a male is Female look at their Breasts.
if they're only a female race, how do you think they'll reproduce.. is it like the Dragonball's Namekian race (wherein a giant green alien vomits eggs)

I have seen the Viera that you're talking about, and she is also in the scene at the war council standing next to Rassler... It's a female, I have it on VHS so I can watch it over and over again... And I have... Seeing as this ties into what I was originally going to ask, does anyone even have proof that male Viera exist? I need to know, because this would complicate my FanFic... Final Fantasy XII; Rabbit Tales... If you count the Viera in Golmore Jungle, there are 15 Viera outside the village, and 5 that you can se in CG sequences... The two at Ashe's wedding, the one at the war council and behind Ashe at the gathering of the Dalmascan army, and two behind Penelo at the end... Is my Viera fanboyism showing through? XD Also, how do I get an avatar to upload here? I see that everyone else has one, and all I can manage is to post an image... It'd be nice if I could have one like everyone elses...
I think I already mention it in the article that male and female Vieras live separately from each other, as said in the FFXII Ultimania?
A lesbian compound of all hot bunny-chicks with fine asses. Who isn't arroused?
While that is indeed awesome BH, if the Ultimania is correct, there is also a compound of all male bunny-males out there too, which is not awesome. Being a Viera male must suck.

You show me some proof from Square Enix itself, then I'll believe you... I've not heard of this ultimania, and I remember reading an official statement saying that they're an all-female race... Until I see rock solid evidence I won't believe it... This is the only place that I've ever even seen the postulation that there could be male Viera...
Kyubi, sorry to say this, but when it comes to the magical Ultimania book, everything it says is cannon. Infact, I think it might be funded by Square. But I'm wrong about everything but Zalera having Kefka's laugh, so don't take my word for it. All you really need to know is that the Ultimania is like the bible here, except not the cause of thousands of deaths (sorry to anyone offended ^.^)
This is totally off topic, but looking at Kyu's and Zodiac's word bubbles, they are the exact opposites of each other. Kyu are you another one of those cursed bizzaros?

I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH NARUTO!!! Sorry for the outburst, but I get so sick of people assuming that I took the name from that god-awful series... ~_~ And it means Fox of Nine-Tails, not Fox demon... Kitsune means fox, not fox demon... Kyubi: Nine-tails, No: Of, Kitsune: Fox... Thank you... My name is Kyu... Kyu Arashibara... Just call me Kyu, most people do... Well... I don't put faith into something I've never seen, and unless Square Enix itself made it, not just funded, then I put no stock in it... If it's anything like the real Bible, it probably contradicts itself a lot... (I'll probably go to hell for saying that... :P What with being Roman Catholic and all, not really supposed to question the Bible... But I do...) I don't really care if it's canon... That doesn't mean much to me... Unless, as I said earlier, it actually was made (produced, written, directed, edited, approved, and other such stuff) by Square Enix... Now, if your ultimania has a picture of a male Viera, and you can tell it's a male, (Non of this "Well it's masculine" stuff) then I will shut up and admit that I was wrong... If you have some kind of link to this book, I would enjoy perusing it... (Sorry if I offended anyone by doubting your book)

I won't believe it til I see it... And the SquareEnix logo stares me dead in the face... I already planned to leave my FanFic the way it was... But I like to be accurate when I do them, I like all the facts ahead of time... And in my last, oh I don't know, year or so of research I have never found a single mention of male Viera... I postulated that they existed, but I also assumed that being created asexually by a collective female presence, or "The Wood", a male mind would have been set incredibly off-balance and thus they would have gone insane and become mindless monsters... But that's just me... At least no one here has insinuated that Viera are the product of Hume and Moogle breeding... Like some people over at the Anime Nation forums... ~_~ I'll believe there are male Viera, if I find photographic or textual evidence of a credible nature, but I'll never believe that they're Hoomgles... Drake, if you hadn't called me a freak, I think we could get along... And BlueHighwind... No, I'm not a Bizzaro... Unless you mean Bizzaro Superman... I like Black and Red, they've always been my colors... In D&D they're my family colors...
Just be glad Zodi didn't affiliate you with Pokémon instead. P.S. You're missing a u in Kyuubi (or at least that line-thingy above it, so it looks like this: Kyūbi). But this could be a pun on your name, what do I know?

Kyubi, here's the front cover of the FFXII International Ultimania: http://image1.play-asia.com/640/5s/pa.104084.1.jpg Notice the SquareEnix logo on the bottom right corner? Yup, they're officially made by SE internally, that's why they're our bibles here. On another note, I'd kill for that artwork. All three of FFXII girls dressed as different mages, with my favorite dressed as my favorite job. I wonder what the hell the guys are doing in the background... Shouldn't Vaan be on Basch's shoulders?

That is indeed some nice artwork right there. Fran as a Red Mage? Yes, please. ;) You'd think Vaan's frail, girlish frame would buckle under the weight of Basch's hefty manliness (don't even think about going there... -_-), but apparently not. :/
Someone doubts the Ultimania!!!???? BLASPHEMY!!! Just kidding. It's stated not in that Ultimania. I had to beg the admins to change it... ~_~ (We weren't allowed to change our titles, they were determined by our number of posts... Unless an admin altered it, which they did... Took a month of pleading for them to change it...) I see a picture of a book, but where's the link that lets me read the thingy? If I see a screenshot of a male Viera, then I'd sure look the fool wouldn't I? In the face of such overwhelming evidence, even I would have to admit that I was wrong... :P Fran as a Red Mage!? Kyu likey!! Anybody got a pic of just Fran, as a Red Mage? Now, my hypothesis of the male Viera was that, after they went insane, they were twisted by their own madness, and the abundandt mist in the wood, into hulking seven to ten foot tall monstrosities... In FFTA2, there is some boss called Red King (i forgot the name) in a side quest so apparently, male Vieras LOOK EXACTLY LIKE FEMALES! I am confused here unless there was a mistranslation.
The Red King is still a woman, they refer to her with female pronouns. This is to do with the fact the final mission in the chain is called The Five Kings. Also, when you fight the Green King, Luso wonders why she isn't called the Green Queen (or something to that effect).
Good point, but why in the heck would they call them that in the first place. the only good reason for that is a mistranslation or accidental typing. The mission sounds more like The Five Monarchs to me (I seen the Blue King before and how is the Green King tougher than the Red or Blue ones). --UndyingvsSephiroth 18:20, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I think this is a mistranslation, since in French version both Red and Green "Kings" are called queens (well, with the French word of course^^. BTW, I saw many Viera ennemies with the counter recation ability. How is it possible, since I don't see it in any job here on the wiki?

Out of all the races in the FF series, Viera have to be my favourite. The fact they're rabbit/human hybrids is awesome.

I have a really simple solution to the whole male issue. Everyone's assuming that viera are anatomically similar to humes, barring bunniness. However, there's no reason to definitely assume that males don't also have breasts! XD It'd mean the one in the FMV (see above) could be male.
I should point out that this is actually a partly serious suggestion! ...although it's mainly for teh lulz, I will admit
- I think the reason we never see any male viera is due to artistic licence, as they must look absolutely ridiculous with their bunny ears and high heels and long fingernails. Saying that they live in a separate village you never visit is good enough, I think.
