They used the Final Fantasy name to boost sales? What wankers! I saw a damning review in a GameBoy mag in 98 and ukno it has to be subpar when not even the Official mag likes it, no wonder it took seven years to get to Europe.

Better or better?

Alright, I've expanded this by actually putting... content into it, instead of an intro paragraph that said the same thing like 4 times (This game was called FF: Legend in America but was really part of the SaGa series!). So, add more or is this level of coverage just right? Trust me, there isn't much more we can cover. XD Diablocon 23:30, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

There are maybe one or two more things to add, but I can't find: The Wonderswan rerelease boxart and descriptions of the four worlds (Ground, Ocean, Sky and Ruin). I've tried playing this game on the VBA, but it is tough. No surprise, since it's made by the guy who gave us FFII. @_@ Diablocon 23:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

At least it was renamed Final Fantasy. This gives a tiny bit more connection than something like Bahamut Lagoon or Ehrgeiz. While it wasn't intended to be Final Fantasy, it was named as such in North America, and thus falls into our scope. However, I await the DS rerelease of SaGa II in America to see what they call it (SaGa II hopefully, considering it's its own series in America now thankfully).

I must admit though that coverage should be minimal, since unlike something like Adventure it never was a true Final Fantasy. However, to ignore its existance would be to ignore one of the more stranger parts of FF's history. Diablocon 23:49, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't get the whole "It has FF in the title, making it more FF." For example how some articles list the Chocobo series as "Non-Final Fantasy". I get that some of the Chocobo titles don't have FF in the title, but they're more FF related then this title. It just doesn't make sense to me. Andres 23:54, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Let me put it this way: If I remove it, someone will eventually come along and complain that we aren't covering it. I add it and then someone questions why we have it (like just now). I believe this is a lose-lose situation and I think choosing the option that increases out coverage even a little bit it preferable

While I agree its odd having it, there are many people who are unaware of this game's bizare origins and would appreciate being informed that this is actually its own complete series. Diablocon 23:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

I for one wouldn't mind adding in.... a little more in terms of the Story section but I don't wanna go overboard here since obviously from this page I can see a few people would be offended if I in essence wrote more than 3-4 paragraphs of content. I, for one, adored this game, but I can understand not wanting to cover it since frankly... its not really very Final Fantasy-like with the exception of a few allusions. --Endel4 00:36, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Final Fantasy Dragon Knights

Apperently this game got coverage in a Japanese FF magazine called "Final Fantasy Dragon Knights". Perhaps the SaGa series has a stronger connection to the FF series than originally thought? I wouldn't be suprised if the the series was developed as a "gaiden" series. There are plenty connenctions in-game (Death Machine, several weapons and spells) and there are also other spin-off games which were not labeled as Final Fantasy, such as Bravely Default, the Chocobo series etc.

I know they were planning on localizing the first SaGa as "The Great Warrior Saga", but perhaps they decided to add "Final Fantasy" to the title, just like they added "Final Fantasy Fables" to Chocobo and the Magical Picture Book, in order to make the connection more clear, instead of marketing reasons? --Nagumo baby (talk) 18:15, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Translation

The translation originally provided seems to be ripped straight from Wikipedia, which isn't strictly literal. Literally, the string translates to no more than "Hell Tower Warrior Saga." The syntax of the other translation is rearranged, and someone has added prepositions where there are none. While this doesn't sound quite as aesthetic in a more literal context, at least it gives the reader a more accurate basis for understanding the kanji - bearing in mind, syntactical differences between English and Japanese don't always allow for eloquent translation.
