Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Returners". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Etymology context[]

Returner means "to go" or "come back", as to an earlier condition or place.

The definition is all well and good but it doesn't exactly explain the name in the context of the FF6 world.

Like what exactly is this group returning to, and from where?

Are they trying to reconquer land that was taken from them?

Are they trying to return society to the way it used to be?

Are they trying to return kidnapped Espers to freedom?

Would be nice to know if this was spelled out somewhere. talk2ty 07:12, August 3, 2015 (UTC)

The Returners are trying to return things to the way it was before the Empire (their conquests, etc), and return it (the world) to peaceful times. In the World of Ruins, the Returners cease to be in name, but their "spirit" still lives on through the party or what they were trying to achieve beforehand in the World of Balance. Celes says at one point that she wants to return the current world before Kefka ruined it in the World of Ruins when speaking to Setzer. Kefka brings death and destruction while the party wants to return life into the "dead" or "dying" world. This is apparent in the ending when you see the greenery and construction of building(s) and well life itself (the birth of Duane and Katarin's baby). Also, the word "returner" or its meaning is used throughout the game not simply referring to the organization, but many NPC (World of Ruins) do mention they wish to return to those days (the World of Balance). Some of the NPC gives flashback sequences when spoken to. The word "returner" is also a theme in the game. Fenrir9 (talk) 15:20, August 3, 2015 (UTC)
