[edit] His name
Technically, shouldn't it be Red XIII that is in the AKA section, considering that was his given name by Hojo and Nanaki was (presumably) his birth name? Lord Patrick 11:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe. For Balthier, he is listed with his proper name, and his fake name in inverted commas, so I guess the same can be done here. Problem being though, Nanaki is a singular name. Diablocon 11:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- @Patrick: He is known as Red XIII in the booklet and as his default name, so that is what the player usually knows him as. If we were to only use birth names, then Princess Garnet would be known as Sarah
- @Diablo: The Balthier article should have Ffamran Mid Bunansa in the AKA box as well, since he is never known as Ffamran 'Balthier' Mid Bunansa ;)StijnX 11:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
If we knew his last name we could do that with Red XIIIKaospyri 23:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

O.o um.....why does that sound so very very wrong? What in the hell was this "experiment"? I ask because I will never get to play FF7, so I'm never going to learn what it is.

- Lotta those, out there. If Square did indeed start going downhill, as some are saying, they hit a marginal upward spike with IX, at least. I end by saying "when you think about it... it could be much, much worse."--Kajex Firedrake 11:02, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

| This paragraph was just added:
He is the survivor of a tribe that protects the planet, who lives in Cosmo Canyon. Due to the rare traits that he possessed such as an extraordinarily long lifespan of a few hundred years, his command of human speech despite being a beast, and his advanced intellect, he became an experiment sample of Hojo. Though he was fearful since he was but an adolescent, in reality he harbored the need to "become an adult as soon as possible in order to protect the hometown's valley", a feeling that bordered on impatience. Red XIII was the tentative name affixed by Hojo to manage the experiment sample. The name was derived from Nanaki's body that was as red as flames and the number 13 used to distinguish between experimental subjects. Amongst them, those of which are judged to be a success have the tattoo of a distinguishing number on some part of their body. In the case of Red XIII, it is engraved on his left shoulder. When Red XIII joins the party in FFVII, he had lost his right eye due to an injury. On the other hand, his right eye appears intact during his appearance in BC. It is thinkable that the wound on his right eye was inflicted during the one year where he was captured by ShinRa in BC and treated as an experiment sample, prior to his meeting with Cloud in FFVII.
However, it doesn't really state anything new that isn't said in the story section. Also, it seems to keep repeating itself. I could trim it down and turn it into a "Personality" section, but it wouldn't be that long.

[edit] Advent children error
it says the opening where nanaki roars is 500 years after the events of FF7, but the movie takes place only 2 years after the game.. also, has anybody noticed that they are pretty much giving him hardly a mention in anything FF7 besides the main game? I think he deserved more than a sentince in the movie and a breif apearance in dirge of cerberus.

| Seriously, WTF is Nanaki?
I have a theory, a real one, for you anime fans; he's a youkai. Youkai are Japanese animal spirits in Japanese mythos, and are popular fodder in anime and manga (you'd be a fool not to notice Nomura's artwork follows manga designs). Youkai in modern culture, are depicted as animals, or humanoids with animal qualities, and are highly intelligent, have a great connection to nature, have supernatural powers, and are extremely long lived.
I'm just saying, that seems to fit Red XIII to me.

| Drake just mentioned something about not being able to make a page for the lack of a name on my Talk Page, which reminds me something I've been meaning to have a discussion about. I want to make a page for the Red XIII species, but I have no idea what to name it. "Red XIII's Species"? "Red XIII's Race"? "Wolf-Cats"? Or should I forget about it altogether?

I think the reason things like years, height, age are inconsistant and not mentioned because they really aren't all that important. You have to make a lot of assumptions in games and that is part of the fun. nitpicking at little things kind of ruins my interpretation of the characters.--BigCubby 13:22, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
why is it that on all the FFVII character pages it says blahblah blahblablablah 0008 or 0007? Shouldn't they say 2008 or whatever year the subject happened in?--Dark Noo Noo 15:31, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
- No. Because the official year system starts again at a certain point in time. It's not actually that odd. I just don't know why they chose 2000 to start again. ILHI (W/B) 16:38, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
It's for the 10th anniversary thing. Used to be FF7 took place in 1997, and all the other dates were based on that. For the 10th anniversary, they just moved all the dates ten years later. Drake Clawfang 16:51, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
