Disambig[]
Disambig this. There's an enemy called Phoenix in Final Fantasy XII. Bluerダヨ 17:55, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, that is enough for a disambig. If a server in FFXI has the name Phoenix, even better. Just remember to move this to Phoenix (summon).
Final Fantasy V[]
It says in the article that whether or not Lenna refuses to cut out the dragon's tongue, your party gets the summon, but I seem to recall that you will only get it if she does refuse. Perhaps it's a version difference-- there are so many different versions of this game. I'll have to check into it... George B. (talk) 04:35, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- You do that, for I don't seem to remember. And for future reference, new discussions go at the bottom of the page, 'kay? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 04:38, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Final Fantasy VII[]
I've never actually used a Phoenix Pinion in a battle in FFVIII, but if you use one, will it only work as soon as the item's used, or does it summon once your party all have KO status? Or does it summon randomly, like Odin/Gilgamesh? It's just that it would seem odd if it can only be summoned once per battle/item use. I should really know this before fighting Omega and Ultimecia, just in case... =D.
It works instantly when one uses it. If you want Phoenix again, one must use another Pinion. However, after summoning it, in later battles it can come back randomly when the party dies.
FFIX[]
Just to give you guys a head's up, but the artwork of Phoenix that you identify as being from FFIX in that particular section and the Dissidia one is actually the FFVIII incarnation. The design matches the render and Triple Triad card above it perfectly and the FFIX version of Phoenix looks different all-together with one long, singular “tail.” 74.77.236.156 15:36, July 26, 2012 (UTC)guest user
- You...you are right. FFIX Phoenix has one extremely long tail (as long as the rest of the bird itself), FFVIII has multiple plumes. I wonder if that art is fanart altogether?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 15:54, July 26, 2012 (UTC)EDIT: Ah I see, it's the Dissidia art.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 15:57, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Hmmm, we really should correct that. Tia-Lewise 15:55, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Flames of Rebirth vs Rebirth Flame[]
So to decide which one to use for the article name, this is what I see:
| |||
I don't even know what FFF:CT or FFF:CD are (Final Fantasy Fables?), but in FFXIII-2 Flames of Rebirth is referenced as well (Captain Cryptic), and most newer translations of old games(the Advance games) are using Flames of Rebirth as well, so it seems Square Enix has been going with Flames of Rebirth since after FFIX came out (with the exception of Crisis Core, which is sort of odd, actually).Espritduo (talk) 07:20, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Aye, Final Fantasy Fables. I don't know if XIII-2 would count as an appearance for the ability itself (would be more of a trivia thing on the page or something), but if it HAS been going with Flames of Rebirth, and is the most recent, then I suppose that'll be the name of the article whenever it gets made.
Fenghuang[]
It's probably worth mentioning that most depictions from FF8 on have also drawn inspiration from the fenghuang's design.(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (ಠ_ೃ)Bully! 17:24, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- Added a bit on the design to the top of the article, though maybe someone has something more insightful to add.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:25, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Non-Summon Appearances[]
Looking at Phoenix and how many times it appears as an enemy or other entity, is there any particular reason why this page is specifically for the summon and not the recurring creature as a whole? Most of the enemy listings on that page, with the exception of FF3, are rather clearly the same creature as the summon Phoenix or intended as an allusion to it. And I don't recall us doing this for any other enemy in spite of differences. I mean, if Glasya Labolas can have Doomtrain on it, I don't see why Phoenix's instances of being a summon and being an enemy can't be grouped together. DrakeyC (talk) 19:49, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe it was never migrated because Phoenix is more associated with the revival item? Probably there is no particular reason, though.
- I think the enemy appearances of Phoenix are intended to be the same being, too. Rename Phoenix (fire bird), or Phoenix (creature) (though it's not really an animal more like "kami"), or...Phoenix (entity)?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:28, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Well, the likes of Bahamut tend to not be disambigs, so maybe just "Phoenix" with no tag? Looking at the disambig, the only things on that page that aren't clearly intended to be the recurring firebird-type creature are the FF4 augment (which is clearly a reference to the firebird, ergo it could be mentioned on its page like Bahamut's mentions the FF12 airship) and the FF11 server (which is defunct, iirc). DrakeyC (talk) 17:38, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah this should probably just be Phoenix, with individual appearances being parentheticals, as seems to be the standard. And the Phoenix server in Final Fantasy XI is not defunct, but can be easily included in the article much in the same way other things inspired by the creature would be. — Zero-ELEC (talk) 16:39, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah Bahamut does have the things clearly named after the "dragon king", so maybe the Phoenix fal'Cie from FFXIII would be the same case. That's the only one that is a bit off brand for me.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:53, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
