Appearance in Final Fantasy XIII? Edit

Just curious, where did confirmation of this come from? Magugag 06:36, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh well, totally doesn't matter now. E3 confirmed it. Magugag 19:48, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Crows? Edit

"In battle Odin is accompanied by Sleipnir and his Odincrows." I only ask, because according to Norse mythology, Huginn and Muginn were ravens, not crows. Is this a editor's mistake or is it official? --Hecko X 22:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

What battle? If I can recall correctly, Odin was always in battle alone. Crazyswordsman 22:53, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, it was from the Final Fantasy Legend II section. --Hecko X 22:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

For some reason they translated "Karasu" as crow. I'll make a note of it or something. koku 23:05, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

That's just typical... Well, to be fair, Karasu can mean crow, but it was just the wrong translation they used (For those who don't know, crow and raven is the same word in Japanese). Goes to show that you have to do your homework/background checks, or else you might mess up. --Hecko X 23:09, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

ZantetsukenEdit

in kingdom hearts CoM Sora uses Zantetsuken, do you think it should be mentioned?Myself 123 16:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Gilgamesh also uses Zantetsuken...Besides, most Samurais also use that, and yet they aren't mentioned. Forget about that.

I would dissent from that. Samurai (and Cyan, to mention the greatest offender so to speak) doesn't use the Zantetsuken as a technique. What they use is a technique stemming from Iaijutsu, basically drawing the blade and slicing the enemy in half in the least amount of steps as possible. And that move isn't called specifically "Zantetsuken".

If referring to the name, it's not exactly "Steel Bladed Sword" more than "Iron-Cutting Sword". While iron (and by definition steel) in Japan may have variants, usually the way they deal with chemistry is using prefixes or suffixes to materials that may have relationship between themselves.

Thus, iron would be tetsu, steel would be koutetsu (although I think I also heard of hagane as steel), much like silver would be gin, and platinum would be hakugin. The way how to see that kind of nomenclature requires remembering how steel is made (carbon + iron = carbonated iron). The name of the move doesn't help that much, granted; it does provide a guide on the difference between one move and another move.

And, if I recall correctly, what Samurai use is Hirameki, which would translate roughly to "Flash", IIRC. TGOskar 06:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Gilgamesh uses Zantetsuken by using Odin's sword, normally, an important point. I personally don't think it would hurt to list the reference in CoM.Magugag 21:50, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Final Fantasy Odin's Zantetsuken influenced the Tatsumaki Zankantou? Edit

For some of you peeps that may know of the Super Robot Wars series...

Have you considered just how eerily similar is one of the classic combination attacks from the Original Generations' series (the Tatsumaki Zankantou, or Tornado Blade in the US translation) to the various forms of the Zantetsuken move from Odin?

For example: The Dygenguar mounted on the Aussenseiter on Pferde (horse) mode often stands on the edge of a cliff, much like Odin always stands on Sleipnir. Both ALWAYS draw their blades before the attack Both always do a charge, considering that the best use of a horseback charge is with a spear, but they insist on using swords too big to be used in one hand (either the Zantetsuken or the Sanshiki/Type-3 Zankantou) Both do a majestic, and overly flashy animation when they strike the enemy And finally, they pose to the camera sometimes when they finish the move.

...Not to mention that the first instance of both moves tends to be a very simple animation, yet the most recent versions of each move (Odin in Crisis Core and Dygenguar on OGs/OGG for PS2) are eye-candy.

I say the similarities are impressive. I do reckon both may attempt to imitate the Mongolian style of horseback combat, but even the Mongolians rarely do a charge. So...you guys think that the Zantetsuken move may have served as inspiration? TGOskar 06:39, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Odin's design in Final Fantasy XIII Edit

Not to start an edit war over this, but I added a bit of trivia and it was almost immediately reverted. Odin's menu render differs from his in-game model in the head. Differences noted: different horns (his render's are flat, where his model's have a softer shape and seem rounder), rounder crest on the model, different mouth colors (green on the render, white on the model), and additional details. Compare: http://i39.tinypic.com/b9hnas.jpg and http://i42.tinypic.com/2yov3ar.jpg . I can understand the smaller details, but the mouth color is a big one. This is the pettiest I've ever been on this wiki, but it irks me that I pointed it out and it was all of two seconds before someone went "NUH-UHH" and reverted it. I reverted it because your statment was incorrect. I checked my game, his render is identical. Those pics are pretty awful quality as well, especially the in-game one, all the blurred lighting and color bleeding changes the color and general shape of his face. compare your render pic to the image that's on this article.

The quality of those pics is very poor, its hard to trust them. And if you're going to complain because your edit was reverted or changed, a Wiki really isn't a good place for you to hang out. Doreiku Kuroofangu 07:01, March 19, 2010 (UTC)

I should say it's less that someone reverted as much as they reverted and were at least partly wrong. I can give on the horns, but the color difference is pretty obvious on the mouth. Sorry if the quality isn't up to par. I just took them with a camera from my own TV literally before posting. If you mean the scan lines are an issue, those are actually present in the whole menu system, at least in the PS3 version. Man, I WISH I had the skills to doctor something like that up. But, yeah, take a look at the menu render I have here and the pic in the article, and you'll still at least see the mouth difference. Or if that's too small, it's readily apparent on this one: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/File:FF13LightningOdin.JPG Bluestarultor 07:06, March 19, 2010 (UTC)

The thing is, his mouth isn't a different color, it look a little different in that pic above due to the lighting and fog effects, but its clearly green. I also wasn't talking about the scan lines in your first pic, that one is ok, it's that second one that sucks for reference. Here's yet another pic http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/File:Odin FXIII summon.jpg I know its not perfect quality but it has much more neutral lighting and hopefully proves my point.EDIT: I just checked my game again and I see how you can say that his mouth is white from his apperance sequence, however that sill an effect of the lighting, as soon as hes done glowing you can see that it's green.

Well, it's not really important. Like I said, it's by far the smallest detail I've ever argued over and I'm not going to drag it out further. I will, however, say that it would help your case if your link worked. ;) Bluestarultor 22:12, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Odin from XIII and Agito XIII Edit

Don't you think that Odin from Agito XIII doesn't quite resemble that one from XIII? Although they're from the same compilation they aren't (very) similar. Is it because they have different l'Cie masters?—Kaimi 20:02, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

Zantetsuken is an attack Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. it can be enhanced to add an instant death chance to it. Still sketchy on the details right now.

That is noted here: Zantetsuken (Ability)#Non-Final Fantasy Appearances.Keltainentoukokuu 17:53, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
