Why the hell did they change it to "Mythril" and not keep it "Mithirl?" Not only is Mithril what it's called in every other universe, it's what the Japanese versions of the games call it. --Crazyswordsman 05:46, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Not quite true, in Lord of the Rings, it is spelt Mythril and, as such, also in the Warhammer game. The etymology would also make more sense it 'twas mythril, as it is supposed to be a metal of myths originally StijnX 07:31, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, in LOTR, it is also spelled Mithril, and "metal of myths" is a bit of an overstatement, since it was Tolkien who was the first to coin the name. --Hecko X 10:45, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't remember that, my apologies. But I have seen it spelt 'Mythril' on many occasions StijnX 10:51, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
The only time I've seen it spelled Mythril outside Final Fantasy is in the one place where it doesn't count: Chrono Cross. --Crazyswordsman 15:31, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
There are quite a few in other games (check the Wikipedia article for that), and I think that there are other literary works and, as I've mentioned before, Warhammmer, where it is spelled Mythril StijnX 15:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. In games. That no one probably cares about. But in movies and books n' stuff, it's almost ALWAYS Mithril. --Crazyswordsman 15:37, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
The majority of games, and heck, even the ports of some of the older have Mythril. You kinda killed the whole argument by typing 'mithirl' in the first comment really >_> --Auron Kaizer 21:51, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
We're not talking about Final Fantasy intrarelations. We're talking about Final Fantasy's spelling versus what it's spelled in movies, novels etc. --Crazyswordsman 22:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Just a side-note, but how can it be spelled in movies? ;) StijnX 06:55, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Scripts and subtitles. ^_^ --Hecko X 12:07, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Well they can go screw themselves ^^ StijnX 12:11, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Hehe, it's like different in every version of the LOTR dvd. The norwegian subtitle says Mithril, the swedish says Mythril, the swahili one says #?!¤#! and the english one says Mithril. --Auron Kaizer 13:11, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Final Fantasy VIIEdit

How do you get Mythril in FFVII? There's a box in the way and when i examine it it only tells me to stop grouping around Uppfinnarn 12:12, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

Really, this kind of question is better suited for a walkthrough website like GameFAQs... or maybe WikiAnswers. But you asked it, so I answer.

There's an old guy living in a cave, in the general region of Fort Condor. You need to take the buggy onto the boat and bring it to that area to reach the cave, and then talk to the old man when your Total Battles number tens digit and ones digit are the same. (Like, 33 or 255.) If they're not, just do one battle at a time between talking to him and he'll eventually cough the Mythril up.

Of course, you could also go here with the Airship, but this usually comes at a point where the Mythril is obsolete. - File:FFIII-nes-sage.gif Saethori (T / C) - 14:22, February 12, 2010 (UTC)
