Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Lucrecia's Cave". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Um...the description of the role in FFVII is nearly incohorent. I've yet to reach the Crystal Cave, so can anyone make it better? --69.11.210.44 14:21, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

FFVII name[]

I could've sworn the title of this place in the game was less straightforward... more like the titles comprised of question marks. Was it really Crystal Cave?  ILHI 22:47, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Bump, more for BlueHighwind to work with. Is "Crystal Cave" used in the compilation?  ILHI 22:34, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

This says it's not Crystal Cave.  ILHI 22:57, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Up there Zolo says it's "???" in FFVII. On the script page, the author uses "Crystal Tomb" in stage directions: So I'll assume it isn't given a proper name. Therefore, a move to "??? (Final Fantasy VII)" would make the most sense, even if the title is boring.  ILHI 23:34, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Crystal Cave is what it's most commonly known as, and it's on the ? disambig. So why not?  ILHI 23:46, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Name[]

Crystal Cave has four names, an official FFVII gameplay name (???); a BradyGames semi-official name (Lucrecia's Cave), a totally official but Japanese exclusive Ultimania name (ルクレツィアのほこら), and a completely fan-coined name (Crystal Cave).

If someone could translate "ルクレツィアのほこら" (I figure there are two different translations that could be made of it, one involving "of", one not) then I would support that for the article name. I'm just not fond of calling it Crystal Cave. In fact, in FFVII there aren't even crystals involved (doesn't look like it anyway). Along the same lines, I'm not fond of "???" since it's a gameplay name only associated with one game and has no standing as a name for a recurring location in the VII universe since it's not its name, it's the lack of a name. 79.69.197.33 00:38, September 1, 2012 (UTC)

"Crystal Cave" is also an alternate name for the track Into the Crystal Cave. This article thus needs moving regardless. 79.69.197.33 00:39, September 1, 2012 (UTC)

I think Lucrecia's Cave would be a good name. It has appeared in a guide and it's descriptive.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 01:05, September 1, 2012 (UTC)
ルクレツィアのほこら is Rukuretsia No Hokora, which is roughly "Shrine of Lucretia" or "Lucretia's Shrine", though its meaning nears "Shrine to Lucretia". - Henryacores^ 01:17, September 1, 2012 (UTC)
I checked Lifestream.net's translations of the Ultimanias, they use "Lucrecia's Cave" or "Lucrecia's Cavern". Given the synonyms, of course, "Lucrecia's Cave" sounds like the appropriate name to use. Doreiku Kuroofangu 06:15, December 26, 2012 (UTC)
Agree with the move to Lucretia's Cave. ScatheMote 04:14, December 29, 2012 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT (with the page move) - I would have to go with using ??? (Final Fantasy VII). Did BradyGames translate the name themselves, or was the Ultimania released after? In which cases does a Japanese name trump an English official name? Do we count as ??? being a placeholder? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 04:57, December 29, 2012 (UTC)
"???" is always a placeholder, never a proper name. That said, Japanese trumps English if the latter doesn't exist or is unreliable. Is Bradygames called it Crystal Cave, I would have kept the name in the article intro but still moved it as the Ultimania is a more reliable source. Doreiku Kuroofangu 04:58, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

Nameless[]

we use translations of Japanese names and don't use nameless all the time. like most of our BCVII coverage... and Fusion Swords.

I am also against using it because if we call this page "??? (Final Fantasy VII)" the template wouldn't be there. The Nameless template says it doesn't have an official name, but it does, we just opt not to use it because it's a gameplay-only name that means nothing, especially for DoC players -- and is also far less searchable on-wiki. 79.69.204.22 19:49, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
