I'm thinking of doing a weapon gallery for this page. but for some weapons the number of models are just too numerous (eg currently 73 variations of sword ), so was wondering if i should make a gallery of various weapons into 1 image, and so on..
Relic, Mythic and Empyrean weapons deserve their own image imo.. --Spira 07:28, April 21, 2011 (UTC)
Hmm...that would be pretty tough to do, especially with how many different weapons there are...I would say make a gallery under each section (i.e. A gallery for Swords, one for Spears, etc.) and probably use the Hide function of galleries (like the one on Terra Branford) for each. That's the only way I can think of handling something like this. Though I wish you luck on this daunting task...that's gonna take quite a while to do!
I guess ill put that on my to do list..anyway if you're editing the list could you find a way to include Empyrean weapons? they're the 3rd set of ultimate weapons and deserve mention as much as relic and mythics
I'm also thinking that, unfortunately, we're probably going to need to expand this list to include stats as well, similarly to the List of Final Fantasy XIV Weapons. That will not be a pretty event... but I'm going to leave that for another day. or month. or year. My current project, whenever I get around to it is finishing up the List of Final Fantasy XI Enemies ._.
you think thats a good idea? i know XIclopedia used to do it. but they ran into hiccups the moment the abundance of evolith, TotM augmented weapons, as well as 80/85/90 mythic/relics came about. Of course we could just ignore the augmented stats and list base stats with a * to indicate the weapon receives augments or something... I'd think the page would run ridiculously long tho, considering how many weapons there are for each type already. A hide tab would work really well probably.
As for relics, mythics and empyrean. Mythics already has its own page for being a unique set. I believe relic and empyrean should have the same. I'd be able to provide pics of individual weapons and beautify the pages a bit, kinda like Celestial Weapons from X, except maybe with more stat details for 75/80/85/90 version and so on.Lotsa stuff to do for XI pages but somehow I think starting with stuff people might care to compare with other FFs tend to be most useful. Thats why I more or less started with final bosses. "Ultimate" weapons is probably the next step
Weapons Time Edit
Okay, guys, it's that time. I've decided to go crazy and fill out this list properly, with information and everything. The works. Now, then, that said, I'm not sure how exactly the information should be listed... and so, I need... A TABLE!
Yes, a table. I would appreciate it if someone would help me make (read as: create on your own) a table for the listing of XI weapons. Now, I'm not sending you guys alone into the wild, to give you some ideas of what needs to be listed, I would ask you folks to consult here to see the sort of information that needs to be explained within the table. Now, obviously we don't need DPS, but aside from that and the Rare/EX markings (which I guess I'll denote in some other fashion? I dunno :\), everything else should be on the table. Not necessarily in the same way as that table is, but most of the information should be present.
ok so.. since like every other FF has gallery of the weapons, i figured XI should have it too.
i started on it today cos i'm a bit burnt out from doing story synopsis and this a little bit more mindless..
- You, sir, are a madman, and I salute you. Speaking of which, I need to get back to completing the list of FFXI weapons subpages myself. Sadly, there are the matters of (A.) worried about overexerting my hand, it was straining after Theatrhythm last night and Carpal Tunnel would basically kill me >_> and (B.) Theatrhythm obsession (which has also needed to be put on hold with the strain, sadly) Jimcloud 19:18, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
- Wooo done with club. surprisingly took less time than i expected. I figured i shd probably be doing something like this. ffxi graphic dat mining is supposed to be my forte after all. only 70+ differnt club models.. not so bad. i fear for sword.
- i probably need to complete what i started now that i have 1 down.. i think the mai tai i drank helped.
- enjoy your Theatrhythm! i don't have a 3DS lol. btw, shdn't guns and crossbows be grouped together under marksmanship?--Spira (talk) 19:49, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Spira....you sir are my hero. This will make a LOT of pages look nicer, not to mention this page. I do have a question though...do other pieces of equipment have models to them too? I'm assuming yes because it's a MMO but...actually, thinking about it, that would be even more insane to get all of the other equipment as well. Just getting weapons alone seems quite a task at hand x_x;;
- Yeah, they do have different models. In addition to that, each model has a slightly different look for each race and gender, most noticeable with AF equipment, I find. It'll be a nightmare to include all of them, and probably merely terrible to do one race/gender for each piece. Jimcloud 20:09, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
- wee did Axe too cos there are so few of them compared to club lol. i chose a bad one to start with. but now i need to go sleep.
- yes, there are models for weapons, shields, instruments and throwing weapons, as well as the 5 main armor slots (head, body, hands, legs, feet). i have the intention to do armor set images at the very least, but not so soon.. it'll require a lot more work than this. certain weapons have very few models to them (like katana which has <20) so it isn't all that bad--Spira (talk) 20:36, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
suggestion: FFXI doesn't officially differentiate certain weapon types.. the main hand weapons are all clear cut, but for ranged and ammo slot weapons.. it goes like this
Ranged consists of archery, marksmanship and throwing weapons.., ammo consists of expendable items..
i've noticed theres crossbows and guns in 2 sections... from an FFXI standpoint, it doesn't make sense to differentiate crossbow and gun because they're 2 types of the same thing, and that if you had to break the category by type theres may be other weapons to take into account that may fall somewhere in between (like hexagun maybe).. it kinda also opens the pandora's box for other weapon types as well. Club skill can be broken down unofficially into rod/club/hammer and so on.. but all this is pretty much based on visual assumption only.
my personal suggestion is we should just combine weapons by skill group (ie. guns and crossbows united under Marksmanship), and then only separate them if there are official distinctions.. (ie. Throwing can be broken down into throwing weapons and throwing ammo because they're categorized separately even though they use the same skill)
another thing would be.. string and wind instruments appears to be missing from this page. are they just not in this wiki or are they hidden someplace else when they should be here? lol. will upload more when i wake up--Spira (talk) 21:39, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
Gallery and PagesEdit
I would suggest making the subpages for each classification of weapons, and throwing the galleries on there while they wait to be filled up with data on the weapons themselves (or at the very least, put in the tables on each subpages and put the In Construction template at the top of the page). That's my suggestion, don't know what you guys think of that...
can i propose a shift of the galleries back to the main page? its very difficult to even spot the weapons at the end of each sub page. and coming from a practical user point of view, i'd think more non-players might be interested in coming here to find out more about each weapon type and then see the galleries, than to ever look at the list of all weapons of that type. it isn't even up to date, which makes it less likely anyone would use it at all. :(
The reason I moved them into the subpages was that having ALL of the images on one page really lagged the page something fierce (this was more apparent on my older computer that died a few months back, and I'm not sure if others would've had the same issues or not). I'm not sure what everyone else's opinion is on this, since I can't think of what other pages would even HAVE as many images as this would (I'm sure there's plenty, but I don't recall them lagging something fierce either...).
ok. i do see that as a potential issue... but the current situation isn't all that great either. we don't typically place galleries on top or whatever, so that wouldn't work. on the other hand, if the lists actually do get transferred over to subpages, the main page will be pitifully bare and short. also i was under the impression the gallery dropdowns would help to save bandwidth a bit.. no?
It does...after it loads all of the images first and THEN makes them hidden (at least, from my past experience). I'm also basing this on how FFTA2 kinda handles its weapon pages (there's quite a few weapons in there. Not nearly as many images as for this game obviously, but nonetheless...).
Lists belong on the subpages, galleries belong on the subpages. If the main page is too bare without this stuff, give it an explanation of the game's wielding system, which is unlike any other game in the system and not necessarily intuitive. (Ammo is ammo for your ranged weapon, except when it's a +stat accessory-type item, or is bait for your fishing rod, or is a consumable that powers your melee weapon. What?) Should have some photos of the equipment screen for the different scenarios too. Hashmalum (talk) 02:03, March 31, 2013 (UTC)
