If these things are really elements, whey are our tags so strange? It should be "Hit (Element)". And can you absorb a "Hit" attack, but not a "Shoot" one?

It isn't the same as element, not really. It is more a damage type. I think it has something to do with the mark left in the air after an attack. Like, Tifa's punch leave what looks like an explosion in the air but Clouds slash leaves a line. Also, is it just me or do all of these attributes seem to be blocked by the same thing. Honestly, these attribute seem to be based more on what an attack looks like rather than what it does.

I'm actually of the opinion that the only of these things that's actually an Element is "Hidden". And that is mostly a glitch, something the programmers coded as a "filler" element without much intention that it would actually appear in-game. The rest is is just excess stuff that doesn't actually affect gameplay. It was probably a way for them to categorize attacks so they know what sort of animation to use after it, nothing more.

I just assumed that they were elements, because "Hidden" was.

I will mostly agree with BlueHighwind here. Hidden is the only real "Element" out of the lot HOWEVER, if you use your sense materia on a desert Sahagin it will tell you that it is "Weak against Punch". It seems to me that it is a little more complicated. Jeppo 14:49, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

In know this is off topic: What is this hidden Element. I've never heard of one except in Crystal Chronicals.

The hidden element refers mostly to any materia that haven't got an element. It's just unfortunate for Square to brand the Ultimate Weapon's Ultima Beam as Hidden elemental. It's never actually called "Hidden" by square. It's just universely called Hidden by fans.

So what your saying is, the "Hidden" element is a glitch that results in non-elementals that result in the ability to null or absorb non-elemental attacks. Is that attributed to all non-elemental attacks (as in absorbing HP when you attack yourself)?

No. The others are attributed as Punch, Hit, Cut etc.

So it only allows one to absorb unelemental magic? Wow, this is confusing. I don't even know if my copy of VII works to figure this out.

Even I don't fully understand it. Jeppo 15:22, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
It is a rather complicated thing to discuss about. But as I stated over in the other topic (or as someone else said), it's more like it's a modifier of an attack moreso than an element. What's probably even more confusing (at least in FFVII's case) is that if an enemy is weak to a status having your weapon with say, Added Effect-Confuse in your weapon while attacking a monster who's weak to Confuse, will do much more damage oddly enough. The game's weird like that. x_x

And yes, they are all blocked or reduced by the same things, at least in FFVII's case. In other games that may have these attributes, I'm not sure on quite yet. But you CAN try and test this out by going into FFVII at least, get Vitality to 255 for a couple characters, and then have one with a Ziedrich and one without, or one with Elemental-(NON-elemental materia, like say Long Range for instance) and one without and attack them with say, Cloud, and see the results. It's pretty complicated, much like the dozens of bizarre glitches I managed to dig up with the help of other people (I have a faq on that and tested some out myself, so I know some of those are true, like 198 of one item or duplicating non-battle items with W-Item) --Xenomic 18:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
