[edit] FFXII Gilgamesh's swords

www.FFXII.us and Wikipedia begs to differ, not to mention this 10 minute video on YouTube (Squalls Gunblade is visible in one of his left hands if you pause 5 seconds in, Tidus' Brotherhood is best visible 8 seconds in, in one of his right hands).

From www.FFXII.us (Emphasis added):
"... and he wields a variety of weapons from previous Final Fantasy titles, including Cloud Strife's buster sword from FFVII, Squall Leonhart's Revolver gunblade from FFVIII, Zidane Tribal's dagger from FFIX, and Tidus's Brotherhood sword from FFX. As a special surprise for fans, Gilgamesh's final sword is the iconic Sword of Loto (also known as the Sword of Kings or Erdrick's Sword) from the first Dragon Warrior trilogy."

From Wikipedia (emphasis added):
"His sword arsenal in this game consists of eight legendary swords from both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, such as Cloud Strife's Buster Sword, Squall's Gunblade, Zidane's Orichalcon, Tidus's Brotherhood, Odin's Zantetsuken, the Final Fantasy V version of the Excalibur and the Excalipoor, and Loto's Sword."

So please add the Brotherhood and the Gunblade back on the list, thanks. --Hecko X 00:31, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I put them back. However, he also uses the Illumina in the first battle (a greenish-yellow sword that looks similar to the Illumina from FFVI). Crazyswordsman 02:30, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I'm just not seeing it. Can you tell me at what time it appears in a certain video? --Hecko X 17:40, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
It appears in the video of the first battle. Crazyswordsman 17:48, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
I am now on a japanese site that describes the swords he uses and what hand he holds them in[1].
First Battle:
  1. All six hands wield swords called "Kotetsu". The Kanji for it reads Tiger *something*. (However, I find it more likely that that they are Masamune, as you can win one after battle)
  2. Middle Left hand wields Revolver (Squall's Gunblade) and middle right hand wields Buster Sword. Rest wield Kotetsu.
  3. Buster Sword switches to lower left hand, Revolver stays in place, middle right hand now wields an unknown sword, which is believed to be a Gunblade. Appearantly, they weren't able to find a sword that resembles it, but this could be what was refered to as Zidane's Orichalcon (though, it could also be a new dagger called "Dangerous", which is in a level class by it self, compare to other daggers). The rest wield Kotetsu.
  4. Gunblade switches to lower right hand, middle left hand now wields blade called Tournesol, which means sunflower (Could this be the one you refered to as Illumina? The blade looks wavy, and it has a suncrest at the hilt). Rest remains as before.
Second Battle
  1. Tournesol switches to upper left hand, middle left hand now wields Brotherhood. Rest is as before.
  2. Brotherhood switches to upper left hand, middle left hand know wields Zantetsuken. Rest is as before
  3. Zantetsuken and Tournesol trade places, and Tournesol is switched with what appears to be a copy of Tournesol. Rest is as before.
  4. Revolver is switched with Loto's Sword. Rest is as before.
Hopefully, we'll find out for sure once the game comes out. --Hecko X 19:02, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Your "Tournesol" is the Illumina. It has the same color as the Illumina. We can't get the exact details of the original Illumina since it's just a sprite. But I am convinced that this is the Illumina, as no other famous Final Fantasy sword has that color. Crazyswordsman 21:17, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
It is a possibility, as the Tournesol glows, which would befit the Lightbringer. If it wasn't because I knew that the sword, Excalibur, was already in the game, I would have thought Tournesol was Excalibur from a previous FF, and the imitation of Tournesol would be Excalipur (as it would be pretty fitting for Gilgamesh to have that sword). I'm gonna write Square one of these days, to ask about permission for using songs/music from the games (or at least samples of them), so I'll try to sneak the question about Gilga's swords in too. --Hecko X 22:12, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Edit: Square Enix didn't know anything about any character at all, they don't store that kind of information. The only idea I have left, is to write one of the translators of FFXII, but I really don't want to bother him with stuff like this. --Hecko X 23:36, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
  • If anyone has patience to look, I have a picture of each one of Gilgamesh swords at my site. Except that I don't know which is which. Renmiri 16:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Well... they're all fake, in the sense that they only look similar to the originals, so no. However, I can see a use for them in Gilgamesh's article, to show the swords he can wield, but we are gonna need better versions of the "Brotherhood" and the two Tournesols, since vital parts of them are missing for some reason (i.e. the guards of the Tournesols and part of the blade of the Brotherhood). Just let me know of you can fix them, and I'll upload all of them posthaste

PNG or BMP are both possible. Sorry, I can't pick background color for XII weapons only for X or X2 (different viewer), I'll get to it tomorrow night ok ? Renmiri
here. It's a 4.5 MB zip file with weapons from models 38-59 in BMP format (and hellwyrm screenshots for Bluer). It might have kotetsu considering all Gilgamesh swords were on the same range. Renmiri 02:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Nice, except the two Tournasols and the Brotherhood are wanting. They have "holes" in them (all three a missing a part of their blades and the two Tournasols are missing part of their hilts as well)

yeah, that is the rendering on the viewer. I might get better screenshots when yaz0r upgrades his viewer but until then it's the best I can get. Renmiri

[edit] The Skull Sword

Which Final Fantasy has Odin holding a skull-crested sword for his Zantetsuken?

VIII surely didn't have it, because it's easy to spot the blade when Seifer strikes Odin down. It's jagged and blue. Even easier to spot after Gilgamesh starts taking Odin's place.

VII, same deal. Blue, jagged blade.

VI, jagged blade.

No Odin in X.

So where/when did he get a skull sword for his Zantetsuken?

The closest anyone has come to a confirmation of the "identity" of the sword are these guys. And even they point out the same anormalities as you do (and then they refer to something that makes everything loop). However, I've tried contacting not only Square several times, but even one of the translators of FFXII. They don't know and/or won't say anything about the swords. However, it is surely not Paine's skull sword. It should also be noted that the Zantetsuken wielded by Gilgamesh is a fake, and as such, does not have to look exactly like the original. Other notes on anormalities are the additional Materia Slots for the Buster Sword (The original only has 2 at the hilt), The "double-fraying" of the Brotherhood (The original only frays downwards, at the edge), and a couple more. --Hecko X 18:16, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm convinced that it's the Zantetzuken. Crazyswordsman 18:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Meanwhile, someone over at Caves of Narshe thinks it's Cecil's Black Sword. While I'm not convinced, it's more likely that than Paine's. Crazyswordsman 21:42, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Definitely not Paine's. Her skull is on the handle not on the blade. Renmiri 02:52, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
XII actually has TWO skull blades this one and the Zantetsuken Renmiri 02:52, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Guess who's back? Back again. Gilgys back, tell a friend.

Too good to be true. You didn't think he'd sit Revenant Wings out, did ya? :) As a summon, he'll actually level up and fight beside you properly in this game. Freaking awesome. Oh, and some dragon named Bahamut is also in that scan, whoever he is... Diablocon 22:10, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Who's the new bunny girl? --Crazyswordsman 22:11, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
One of the new playable characters. If I could read Japanese, and if camera glare weren't blocking it, I could at least get her name. Oh well, 2 more weeks before all the info comes in. Diablocon 22:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
If it's in kana, I could give you a translation. --Crazyswordsman 22:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
It is, but the reflection of the flash is in the way. It looks like "sanu-something something", but I can't make it out. --Hecko X 00:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
The Viera's name is Midea, that spelt mi-de(small)i-a according to katakana. Yay, Gilgamesh is back. Bluerダヨ 05:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Yuk, if that's Bahamut, it looks a little to much like SHIN for me to like it...--Goldberry2000 09:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh yeah, the lines a crooked, not straight. Can't believe I thought it was san (三) and not mi (ミ)... Didn't notice myself until I saw the dialogue box with her next to the flash-reflection. But Blue, are you sure it's not Mitia? It looks to me like it says ミティア. --Hecko X 12:37, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm just waiting for the official site to update (which is tommorow). They always give good romanzations of character names there, so hopefully this new Viera is added. Diablocon 12:39, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Yup, it's ミディア. Link is here in Japanese. [2]
Ok then, ミディア it is. Couldn't see the dakuten in the magazine pic. --Hecko X 13:27, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stat Pages

While this is the main page, should each Gilgy fight have its own page, like Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy XII), just so this page isn't overrun by stat pages in the end? Diablocon 11:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping...
TALK - 17:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm gonna have to say yes, there should be a main Gilgamesh page for different appearances in the games, but the fights from each game should have their own pages. I would add that all fights from one game should be in a single page, in my opinion, anyway.
AuronKaizer - Forever better than the rest.
TALK - Time time knocked me out of my mind. You can rely on the old man's money!
There are six fights against Gil in FFV, so just put (HP) 1st/2nd/3rd/4th and so it goes. Alternatively, use <br> and put the stats underneath each other.

Is it possible that Gilgamesh is the same character as Gogo from Final Fantasy VI?

Drake...I don't know if I should harm you for harming Gilgamesh's name with Gogo, or praise you for thinking of a Gogo alternate that doesn't suck.

I pick harm, because Gilgamesh is not at all like Gogo. *stabs*

Reason why? Gogo=two arms. Gilgamesh=4/6/8 arms

I've actually never recruited Gogo, just seen concept art for him. In fact, I'm playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time now. The Advance port is easier to play, with less loading time and a better translation, than the Playstation version, which I gave up playing after Celes joined the party for the first time, as I couldn't beat some robot in the Figaro Caves.

Bold text

If Gilgamesh is Gogo, how come Gogo could still be in the third world after Gilgamesh got banished in the second world to the Void? Gogo could also use a spell to warp through dimensions (at least it seems so when he cast Banish on himself), Gilgamesh couldn't, as he was stuck in the Void. Of course, Gilgamesh could just have lied, but that would just look stupid. - Xavio Hawkwind

[edit] His FF6A appearance

If that's the REAL Gilgy in FF6A, does that mean it's his last appearance? Since he turns into Magicite, in other words, a corpse? Or does the end of magic somehow free him and let him resume his interdimensional journey? Thanos6 08:47, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
