Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Full ATB skill". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Seriously, where did we get some of this info. Can someone link to where it shows Death has a higher success rate if used against an enemy with status effects. RumDrools 03:01, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Quotes[]

Before we start getting ahead of ourselves with putting all these quotes on this article, Why don't we place all these quotes as a sub-article of their character articles, along with everything else they say in battle, just like we did with Dissidia characters. Jeppo (Talk | contribs) 15:28, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

I agree - it looks a little messy with the list of quotes at the start. We should be going for one quote per section, I think. - Paramina 23:50, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Yes. The quotes are ridiculous. Move to the character subpages or something. C A T U S E 20:15, December 27, 2012 (UTC)

Final Fantasy X-2[]

Well, in Final Fantasy X-2 to perform one of free special abilities of the special ]]dressphere]]s: Great Whirl, Vajra, Sword Dance, full ATB gauge was needed to use a skill, Shouldn't it be mentioned somewhere? As prototype or something?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 15:06, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Don't you always need a full ATB gauge to use any skill?Keltainentoukokuu 15:19, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

What I mean is that in Final Fantasy X-2 each ability has its "length", e.g.: Fire has shorter bar than Firaga. Great Whirl, Vajra, and Sowrd Dance, as well as Trigger Happy (probably there are more) require longer ATB bar to charge.
Example:
Yuna HP 9999 MP 999
=---
Rikku HP 9999 MP 999
====--------
Paine HP 9999 MP 999
==-
See? Rikku's ATB gauge bar is longer than Yuna's or Paine's.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 20:32, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

They are different. The battle systems of FFX-2 and XIII have little in common other than the ATB gauge. You're talking about abilities with high charge time in X-2, while the use of the ATB gauge is much simpler in XIII.

While in FFXIII you wait for the ATB Gauge to fill and split it into several actions that take a certain number of slots, in X-2 you wait for the ATB Gauge to fill to choose an action and then wait for the charge time of that action. In XIII there is no such thing as charge time. Because of this, there is no relation between Full ATB Abilities and what you say. - Henryacores^ 21:23, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

  • Gasp* I forgot FFX-2 has Charge Time, that should go into the Charge Time article *busybee*Keltainentoukokuu 21:26, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

Official name?[]

"Full ATB Skill" is not an official term is it? This article should have the {{nameless}} tag?Keltainentoukokuu 00:39, November 25, 2011 (UTC)

If you wonder, this name was kinda invented by me. The Japanese FF Wiki simply identifies these skills as (固有アビリティ, koyuu Abiriti?). [1] without a more specific name. -- Inpursuit (talk) 08:40, November 25, 2011 (UTC)

Division?[]

I don't like the idea of of diving the skills as for games as uniquely they have the same mechanics. Quickening are understandable for distinctive division, but in XIII/-2 case it's not a good idea I think.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 21:46, December 7, 2011 (UTC)

I divided this section, because the Strategy section was so clearly all about FFXIII only. Of course, I guess some FFXIII-2 strategies could be added to the same space, but it also feels a bit silly because, as far as I know, none of the FFXIII Full ATB Skills return in FFXIII-2? So if you're looking for tips it doesn't sound like the best idea to have tips for two games just jumbled together.Keltainentoukokuu 22:00, December 7, 2011 (UTC)

"Unparalleled Attack"?[]

If you look at the Brain Blast questions, Last Resort, Army of One, Cold Blood and Death are referred to as Hope, Lightning, Sazh and Vanille's "unparalleled attacks". I know it's a little retcon-y on Square's part, but does anyone think it could be considered the official name for these things? Just putting it out there. Adesto 13:58, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

I noticed it too, these attacks are called "unparalleled attacks" (lowercase) in the Brain Blast quiz. I could see the reason for changing this article's name and across the board, but I just wonder if it's worth the effort. They're not called unparalleled attacks in FFXIII and full ATB skill is just a more descriptive name, plus, you know, effort.Keltainentoukokuu 15:34, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

I think we can say that it's an alternate name used in XIII-2, and only that, nothing else.—Kaimi >♂ FFXIII - Sprite-AtkVanille - FFXIII - Sprite-ShockVanille - Discussion - FFXIII - Sprite-CrysVanille 17:33, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

It has no name in XIII. It has a name in XIII-2. Yes it should be moved. The Fusion Swords aren't called the fusion swords in-game, yet there's a reason we call the page the fusion swords-- because it has been the term used to refer to them elsewhere.

If they were actually called "Full ATB Skills" in XIII, there would be a case for keeping it here. But it isn't. It's an unofficial name over an official one. 79.69.201.94 17:50, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

It sounds to me like more of a description than an actual name. I wouldn't support a move. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 20:31, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, because "unparalleled" is a word used to describe things all the time. :p JBed 20:48, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
What's that even supposed to mean? You can't exactly provide evidence to support that claim. :/ - +DeadlySlashSword+ 21:58, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
If I'm going to describe an attack that is unparalleled, I would not use the word unparalleled. I would more likely use unique, or best, or maybe unrivaled.
Ergo, even if you state it's just a description, it's a pretty unique way to describe it. I would explain how somewhere else the wiki has had a similar discussion (I think we have anyway) but I don't know where. 79.69.201.233 14:36, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
If you wouldn't use the word, that's merely personal preference. No other evidence to state it's less common a descriptor than others which by that logic you say it can't possibly be a discription instead of the actual name. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 15:01, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
Eh, you should probably just ignore me. 79.69.201.233 15:06, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Name (yet again...)[]

When Serah and Noel get Ultima Arrow and Meteor Javelin, the crystarium says something like "Learn the Exclusive Commando/Ravager Skill 'Meteor Javelin/Ultima Arrow'".

Now - I'm not 100% sure as to whether or not it's called "Exclusive <role> Skill", but my point is still the same.

If someone could find out what this is - for certain - wouldn't that be a very good name to name this article - given that is actually being referenced in game.

I know the same could be applied to what is applied above - but I think if we can get an official name - it's always better. COOLAWITS ~TALK | YFC | XVI | DQFF~ 18:18, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

Good find. "Unparalelled attack" is an official name though if it appears in Brain Blast, but what it is called in Crystarium is potentially better. Does FFXIII as well have such Crystarium descriptions?Keltainentoukokuu 18:22, April 17, 2012 (UTC)EDIT: Checking this from YouTube, FFXIII doesn't have any "learn exclusive skill" message, just a description of what the attack does.Keltainentoukokuu 18:29, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
Square Enix really know how to screw up our lives :/. Well we could just take the attitude that at least it is named officially later on (sort of). Heck - we did it for World A - it was never named in the original game but was in Dissidia. I think there is nothing to stop us - so long as we have 1 official name source - and I think if its in the Crystarium it's the best your going to get! COOLAWITS ~TALK | YFC | XVI | DQFF~ 23:01, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
If we have two names for the same thing, pick the "best" (what identifies the name as the best is very variable) and put the other at the intro. No problems whatsoever. - Henryacores^ 21:41, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Monsters' Full ATB Skills[]

Shouldn't we make the notable PP monsters separate sections to cover each Full ATB Skill? The monsters I think of are: Amodar, Jihl Nabaat, Gilgamesh and Valfodr.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 13:18, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

BUMP.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 19:52, November 2, 2012 (UTC)

I think we should, but I don't know if Gilgamesh and Valfodr would count. Although I didn't really do those 2 battles. --Shockstorm (talk) 19:56, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
