[edit] This page..

This page has a ridiculous amount of red on it, presumably from its being copied from the original Wikipedia article. I will take it upon myself to remedy this.

Do Nu Mou apear in FFXII? They have not been mentioned in anything I have read about the game.--Sephiroth2.0 00:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

they do --Hecko X 01:00, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Awesome. I was thinking they were taking them out, because several articles I read listed all the races, except them. Probably just an oversight on the part of the writers.--Sephiroth2.0 01:48, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Race?

What is that pointy eared race seen in Bhujerba? I think they are Rebbes, but I'm not sure. There is so little info regarding the several minor races of Ivalice.--Sephiroth2.0 00:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ramon?

Doesn't Larsa Solidor use the name Lamont?

yes --TacticAngel 22:42, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
My best guess is that Ramon is how a Japanese person would say Lamont, given that L and R is the same sound as well as the T in Lamont being practically silent (unless emphasized). --Hecko X 23:44, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
"Ramon?" That's a Spanish name. In Japanese it would probably be something like "Ramoonto" (screw Hepburn translations). --Crazyswordsman 21:50, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
1) It's romanization, not translation; 2) When romanizing, you go by sound, i.e. pronounciation, not spelling, so the "to"-part would never be romanized, as the "t" is silent, i.e. in Japanese, it would be "Ramon". --Hecko X 22:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hope no one minds my adds

I've been working on fixing some of the red links for FFXII. oakenfelder

Looking great! Keep it up. I want this to be a featured article. Crazyswordsman 08:06, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Darn I knew they were limit breaks, but my brain kept spitting out Overdrives every time I tried to think of what to type. I just created more red links that I'll work on fixing tomorrow. oakenfelder

[edit] Wiki Recipes??

Someone needs to develope a wiki for the Bazaar recipes!!

I assume you mean an article. I'll do it, since I've nothing better to do. Diablocon 20:48, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
I actually need one of those myself. --Crazyswordsman 21:44, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, I'm in the middle of it right now. Obviously, it's taking a while, it's kind of a big list. Should I name the article "Bazaar" or "Bazaar (Final Fantasy XII)"? Diablocon 21:45, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Is there a bazaar in any other game? If so, the latter. Otherwise, the former. --Crazyswordsman 21:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
I believe XI has one, so I'll take the safe route. Diablocon 21:53, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Then do that. --Crazyswordsman 21:55, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Advert

Have any of you seen the UK advert for this game? I thought it was pretty spectacular considering normally its the trailers that make me buy a game and the adverts that but me off. The TV advert for this was great asside from the fact that Patrick Stewart was doing the talking in the background, which kind of left me expecting a Star Trek reference or something. But no, it looks really ace; and if it wasn't against my nature to purchase anything for PS2 (the console included), I'd be right in there and get it.--Goldberry2000 23:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Wait, that was Patrick Stewart doing the voice over? How did I not get that? Damn, I didn't think they'd get someone like him just to narrate the advert. His voice would actually sound in place in the world of Ivalice. And yes, it was a surpringly good ad, but a little wrong. The world is not on the brink of armageddon, this is one of the few FFs where it isn't. It's on the brink of war (I guess you could say they're the same thing though). Diablocon 14:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Hehe, Final Fantasy commercials are weird. I remember the FFX one, it scared me, but I dunno why. --Auron Kaizer 16:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Looking through the FFXII voice cast, I'm surprised they didn't look for Patrick Stewart, Jeremy Irons, or Alan Rickman to do voices. --Crazyswordsman 01:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ending,

Just completed the game just now, I think the ending of this needs to be expanded a bit more^_^

I've just corrected a few things

[edit] Damage Limit?

Can the damage/HP amount exceed 9999 like in Final Fantasy X? --Auron Kaizer 19:42, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes and no. Your HP can exceed 9999, but it will still only say 9999. And only a few things can break the damage limit, and they're all Esper attacks. Diablocon 21:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System

Hey friends, news has it that an International Version for FFXII called name above will be released in Japan! Undoubtedly like the X-2 International version. Link here in French!

YES! I knew they couldn't resist doing an International version! Good news indeed! Diablocon 18:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Can anyone who knows French please translate, or at least get the gist of it. Let's hope it gets released everywhere, not just in Japan like X-2. --SmegHead 00:08, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping...
TALK - 00:58, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Very loose translation based on my 4 years of high school French that I haven't studied in 2 years:

"Final Fantasy XII will indeed have an international version! At the same time, unexpected, yet not surprising, news. But, what about the menu? The biggest change comes to the license system, since now it will have not one license board, but twelve. This is to say that you will have the choice of choosing between twelve jobs for your characters to level. Only that. The name of the game is, so far, Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. Now you see why there are twelve license boards, the twelve signs of the zodiac. One is in Ivalice, after all. As to the rest, one can suppose that Square Enix will add the American voices, restore the censored scene from the original Japanese version (the one between Penelo and Ba'Gamnan's group in Bhujerba), and will put in the 16/9th(?) mode. Release is expected to be in Japan only, on August 9 at the price of 6800 yen (42 euros)."
Someone should probably doublecheck that, if anyone else knows any French...

AuronKaizer - Forever better than the rest.
TALK - Time time knocked me out of my mind. ZOMG!
I must say, that sounds tres awesome. I wonder if there are default jobs for each char.
SmegHead - Just kickin' back...
TALK - 03:23, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
What was the "censored scene" that was removed? does anyone know? And why do they call it International when it is only released in Japan? I want to play it gawddammit!
Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping...
TALK - 03:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
It could be a translation problem on my part. The article itself actually says "uniquement," which means "uniquely," not "seulment," which means "only." I don't really know if that's enough of a difference to warrant a different meaning to the whole statement, but it is something. And this is still pretty speculative, I think, so who knows?
occu-14.png
Ser Blue says at 04:47, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
The censored scene is the part where Penelo was bound by Ba'Gamnan in Lhusu Mines. It was cut out from the JP version, bondage themed, it seems. Well, its International in Japan because it has English voices, imagine yourself as a Japanese, then you'll get the idea. 16/9 is probably the screen ratio.

TALK - Let the songs begin
Unless Square make this different in many ways from FFXII, I'm certainly not buying it. Fucking money grabbers!. And that '16/9th mode' is probably referring to 16:9 widescreen

Diablocon - No, the question is; who art thou, ham planks? Shanks! I meant shanks
TALK - 12:31, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Cool idea about the license grid, I had the same idea a while back, but I thought Square would never actually use something like that, nevermind in FFXII itself.

[edit] Fishing Mini-Game

At GameWinners.com, it gives some advice for additional locations in a "fishing mini-game." But where and how can one access this fishing mini-game? I've never come across this in the game at all.

Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping...
TALK - 05:48, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
You can't start the fishing mini-game until after you visit Draklor Laboratory. Talk to Ruksel on the west dock in the South Bank Village in Dalmasca Estersand and he'll mention wanting to fish, but not having a fishing pole.
Yes, I have visited the Draklor Laboratory and talked to that guy. In fact, I have the option of flying the Strahl to the Bahamut and beating the game.
Mymindislost - You made me forget my dreams when I woke up to you sleeping...
TALK - 05:58, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
After talking to Ruksel, you have to go to Balfonheim, talk to the Fishing Enthusiast in the Chivany Breakwater section twice and ask about her fishing rod. Run back to the Aerodome entrance, then back to where the Fishing Enthusiast was sitting. She will be gone, but check the wall nearby for the Muramata fishing rod, then take it back to Ruksel. I hope that helps you, and that I didn't just repeat what you've already done again... -_-
occu-14.png
Ser Blue says at 06:02, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT: Easy. Go to Balfonheim port with the Strahl, then exit the aerodrome. Just outside, find a guy who is fishing there, from the aerodrome, he'll be on your right. Talk to him about the fishing pole, then he'll say something about wanting to take a bite, or something. Get away from him, but don't exit the area, just stay a bit far from him. It took me less than five seconds for him to disappear, so go back to his spot. His pole will be there for you to take. Go back to Ruksel and you can start the fishing game, which is TOO EASY!

BTW, you can upgrade this fishing pole by going to Barheim Passage after you obtain it, and find Gilgamesh. Yes, Gil makes another appearance after you battle him. He'll give you a fishing pole without a fight. :)

Thanks, I will do what you guys tell me. Where in the Barheim Passage will Gilgamesh be located, though? (Oh, and after I defeated Gilgamesh, he left a sword behind, but I couldn't pick it up, so I left the area and he sneaked back and recovered it. I hope there wasn't something I could have done to get the blade for myself, for that seamed like a total waste of a good sword.
occu-14.png
Ser Blue says at 06:30, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
You'll get the sword eventually from the Bazaar. Gilgamesh is found at the bridge deep within Barheim, where there's a lot of Bombs and the skeleton enemies. At the map here, his location is at the small square on the bottom-left part of the map.
Before seeking out Gilgamesh, you must make the colored bottles that you caught during the fishing mini-game explode and thus reveal the hidden notes inside of them. See the middle of this page for further details.--71.107.170.233 01:40, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] comparisons?

oddest thing... i've noticed comparisons between FFXII and Star Wars particulary the original trilogy. it's kinda obvious yet so thinly veiled., Han Solo is so similar to Baltheir and Gabranth screams Darth Vader (he's even got the breathing)i've noticed more but i dont think i want to spam this page w/ any more of them. Besides, i want to see if any else noticed this other than me first. also, note that this may not be the first time such comparisons have happened (FFIV as a minor example) --Maverick King 22:58, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

"Thinly veiled" my eye. They've changed the names and replaced all the fun in those movies with...not fun. --Auron Kaizer 09:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Am I the only one who doesn't see this at all? I mean, it's a bit of a stretch. Wouldn't that make Fran Chewbacca? You could just as easily compare the game to "Lord of the Rings," with little Vaan from Hobbiton, and all the walking to find a way to destroy the Ri--er, Nethicite. The writers probably just used some of the same writing cliches. --nekobawt 17:03, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
No, that's just retarded. --Auron Kaizer 08:22, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
lol.... maybe in a way that would make fran....... i mean, Wookies do use bowcasters (a crossbow shaped rifle) and Fran starts of w/ a bow and they're both known to be quite ferocious. Baltheir seems so damn similar to Han Solo with his affection for using guns to his "it's gonna cost u" attitude. Gabrant = Vader no explanation needed. Ashe = Leia, heck they even rescue her the same way, board an "indescrutable airship" save the princess from her jail cell and then find a way to blow up said airship. And Vaan definatly equals Luke Skywalker in terms of nerdiness.but then again Luke can do all that jedi shit.....(oh and there's definalty more comparisons)--Maverick King 01:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Seems obvious to me Sky Fortress Bahamut = Death Star, Dalmasca = Tatooine (sort of), though Alderaan would fit as well, Princess Ashe = Princess Leia, Balthier = Han Solo (only better), Archadian Empire = Galactic Empire, Skycity of Bhujerba = Cloud City of Bespin (and therefore Marquis Ondore = Lando Calrissian (sort of), though Reddas would fit as well), Ba'Gamnan = Boba Fett (only worse), any Judge = Darth Vader, Dreadnought Leviathan = Super Star Destroyer, Resistance = Rebel Alliance, etc. And there are others. Vaan - young orphan in a desert land controlled by an evi Empire (if you can really say Archadia is evil) who dreams of owning an airship... see where I'm going with this? Don'ty forget some of the real-world influences either, though. The Man In The Black Cape 15:43, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I was just correcting what EL CID had added to the article when I found out it had been removed. Why was it removed?

Speculation should not be placed in articles. Like Marche's villain Theory, it should be kept in user space.

[edit] Will this work on a North American PS2?

Will this version work on a North American PS2?

Diablocon - No, the question is; who art thou, ham planks? Shanks! I meant shanks
TALK - 17:39, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Umm... Which version are you refering to?

Only the NTSC/A version will work on an American PS2. The NTSC/J and PAL versions won't. The same holds true to every game.

The international version.

Diablocon - No, the question is; who art thou, ham planks? Shanks! I meant shanks
TALK - 17:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
It won't, it's NTCS/J. Mod your PS2 or get a Swap Disc to play it.

[edit] Glitch

Another glitch is the "flapping hair woman" in Rabanastre, close to the bridge near the Sandsea. Um...can someone put a explanation as to what this glitch exactly is into the article? It's currently unexplained. --Golden Monkey 23:26, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

It's a glitch said to be on the PAL version of FFXII. It does nothing really, except show that one of the woman in Rabanastre had her hair "flapping". I think there's a youtube video about it. Blue。 06:20, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Buddha

Does Buddha feature in this game in any prominent way? Are there any references to Buddhist concepts or teachings that I can write about in the wiki? 4.241.6.62

NO And stop, you're making us (I'm a partial Buddhist) looking bad. -- Nelo 03:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Partial Buddhist? How does that work? And how does this make you look bad? Chocotard 23:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] skipping plot

Ozsmith0 - weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
TALK - i hate wiki markup! {{{time}}}
it seems like the part about dalmasca being under archadian rule skips too quickly to Vaan stealing from the consul.

Diablocon - No, the question is; who art thou, ham planks? Shanks! I meant shanks
TALK - 18:26, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Erm, that's the whole driving force behind the game, Princess Ashe trying to reclaim her Kingdom from Archadian rule.

Ozsmith0 - weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
TALK - i hate wiki markup! {{{time}}}
yeah but there is no introducing migelo, kites, penelo, dallin, the parade, etc...
Master Conjurer : {{{1}}}
It's not like every last detail really needs to be shown. The reader might as well watch someone play the game.
Ozsmith0 - weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
TALK - i hate wiki markup! Ozsmith0 23:49, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
i mean, the article should atleast mention something like the fact that migelo took them all in. i doesnt even say that vaan is an orphan, nor does it say his age.
Master Conjurer : {{{1}}}
Well, I do admit it should at least mention that he is an orphan.
occu-14.png
Ser Blue says at 09:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
I believe all these details have/are/will be explained in their individual character articles.

[edit] Basch or Balthier as the main character

According to the Basch article:

Initially, Basch was intended by the developers to be the main character of the game; however, they shifted the focus to Vaan and Penelo late in development after reconsidering the players' demographics.

According to http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/final-fantasy-xiii-the-final-countdown?page=0%2C4 :

In Final Fantasy XII, Yasumi Matsuno originally intended for Balthier, a much older member of the core cast, to take on the role of lead protagonist. Reportedly, it was felt that casting players as a 40-year-old man would alienate a large slice of the fanbase, so the decision was taken to focus on the much younger character of Vaan.

Which one is correct? Bluetash 19:26, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Master Conjurer : 19:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
The way it's worded in EDGE the article implies that the author is recalling from memory, and not quoting Squenix staff. As every other source I've seen has pointed to Basch and the wiki already has reason to say Basch, methinks we should leave it Basch.
Deadlyslashsword - +It takes disaster to learn a lesson, but you're going to make it through the darkest nights+
TALK - 19:51, 4 May 2009 (UTC) - Am I too late...to be saved?
Yeah, that, and Balthier's not 40, so the article is definately not accurate.
ScatheMote - 20:47, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Balthier is 22. The 40 year old man is probably Basch, as he is 36.
Master Conjurer : 21:21, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe the EDGE writer had the two mixed up in the first place.

[edit] Basch

The game would have had a more experienced feel to it if it had the main character as Basch

For All Final Fantasy 12 fans, there is an epic tale of Final Fantasy that is just...awesome. Fantasy 12, The Complete Tale People, tell your most awesome user what you think of it.(p.s, Its not mine)

[edit] Story Text

I imagine it wasn't easy to write down the story, but in the interest of making it a better read:

- The kingdom of Dalmasca is said to be a city-state. I don't think it is; Dalmasca's territories are Giza, and the Sands, with the capital being Rabanastre. Nalbina Fortress/Town lies within its borders, I believe (I know the game says it lies on the Dalmascan-Nabradian border).

- "They travel to Bahamut to land and kill Vayne before he can destroy the country of Dalmasca". I altered the text to say "city of Rabanastre".

- I think the party knew Fran and Balthier were still on board Bahamut. The text says they were surprised to learn there weren't with them.
