Atma/Ultima Edit

When you visit Albrook in the weapon shop (or maybe outside of it) you can talk to man and he tells you that two Atma's exist, a monster and a sword. Ok, you find the sword in the cave to the Sealed Gate and you fight Atma Weapon on the floating continent. Then in Kefka's Tower you fight just plain "Atma". So that's actually 3 different version as opposed to the two the scholar describes. So what's the deal?

Theatrhythm Ultimate Weapon

That raises a good point - what us the Ultima Buster, besides a powered up Ultima Weapon? Drake Clawfang 05:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, your quote isn't complete, he said that there were two Ultima WEAPONS, which were both created by men for war purposes. The Ultima Buster that you fight in Kefka's Castle is, according to its dialogue, something that was created long long ago, even before the War of the Magi. It was most likely freed during the Apocalypse. Ezupio 05:29, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Big fat mistake Edit

I noticed that while reading this article, it said that the GBA version of FFVI had "altered palletes" if this is based off of the brighter colors or the GBA version compared to the SNES version and not off of an official maker of the game such as someone from Square, than this is false for two reasons. 1) The original GBA's screen was tinted a little, so the lights made the colors brighter, when they made the GBA SP, they took away the tinted screen, but get the bright lights, so the palletes are the same, just a bit brighter due to the GBA's lights. 2) As a pallete artist myself, I mess around with charecter and map palletes while making games through hacking. I comparied the palletes of both the SNES version and the GBA version and found that there is, infact NO difference between the palletes. Sincerly, The God of Darkness A.K.A. one of teh biggest Final Fantasy VI Fans EVA.

Themes and Symbols Edit

One major theme in the second half that was missed was the theme of finding hope in the midst of despair and madness. This was symbolized not only with the Falcon, but through Terra's and especially Celes's roles in the game. The theme is now added.

I think that has to do with the significance vs. insignificance and value of human life thing. The theme of hope is found throughout the game, but its not a theme that I find very strong in the game. If you convince me otherwise, I might agree though.-smashbrutha- 15:21, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

Hope is a very strong theme, especially in the World of Ruin. The whole world is one of despair and many characters such as Celes, Setzer, and Strago have moments of despair in which they have given up. The fact that Celes snaps Setzer out of his is a major turning point in the WoR. Hope is mentioned several times in the script and alluded to in others. Edgar syas after getting the airship "For once, I feel hopeful" and Celes alludes to hope when you talk to her on the airship. The Airship Falcon is basically a symbol of hope. Hope is also stated as one of the things that Kefka is going to destroy. Another aspect of hope is the music. Before you get the airship, the tune is "The Dark World" a brooding haunting piece...after you get the airship, its "Searching For Friends", a hopeful upbeat piece.

Also another major theme not mentioned in the article is dealing with the loss of a loved one and moving on. Most characters expierence a death of a loved one either in the story or before it.

I think this section actually needs to be rewritten. The significance of human life is actually the main theme of the game, all the other themes (they need to be mentioned) fall under this theme. The significance of human life is the "trunk" and love, loss, hope, dreams, and even lust for power are its "branches".

Took out bit about the crystals. Edit

It said that VI was the first mainstream FF that didn't have four (as in I) or more (as in III) crystals. I first changed the III to IV, because III had four crystals while IV had eight, then I took out all of it, because II was the first mainstream one without crystals. Just explaining my edits.

II had the elemental crystals. In a small role. FaythOfFenrir 19:02, February 11, 2010 (UTC)

Siren censorship & censorship in common Edit

"The North American and European PlayStation port retains the bulk of Woolsey's original translation, with a few minor changes, including the return to the original Japanese title of Final Fantasy VI, updated graphics, and a number of character and item names alterations. However, instead of using the original Japanese version of Siren, a third Siren sprite was used which had more censored than the original Japanese sprite, but less than the original North American release." < that's actually not true. A third Siren sprite was used for the American and European GBA release, but the PS1 port is completely uncensored, as far as I know. Same story with the "Pub" signs, Chadarnook, the Goddess and anything else, but they stayed uncensored in the western GBA release too. But I don't dare editing this article. :( --Froschvampir 11:11, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

Timeline? Edit

I noticed there is no reference to VI's timeline. I actually own a copy of the Settei Shiryou Hen guide which features a timeline and some minor info about the world. Sadly, my ability to read Japanese is awful so I can't translate it but here's a link to a site that I've been posting my findings and other sources. http://forums.eyesonff.com/final-fantasy-vi/126790-ffvi-ultimania.html

Obviously, I feel everything needs to be checked first before any edits are made. I've also noticed that their is a bit of conflicting information from other sources mostly concerning Gastra's age. Of anything, I just want to know if any of this info is accurate or may shine some light on the game. Wolf Kanno True Beauty Exists Only in Things that Last a Moment 23:05, December 27, 2010 (UTC)

List of Final Fantasy VI charactersKeltainentoukokuu 18:28, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

It has 14 permanent playable party members, and then 15 playable temp characters (Ten Moogles, Biggs, Wedge, Ghost, Banon, and Leo) making for a whopping 29 playable characters overall. Wolf Kanno True Beauty Exists Only in Things that Last a Moment 16:27, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Wii Shop Channel Edit

I've got Final Fantasy 6(3) off the Wii Shop Channel, Today.--Cb13 (talk) 22:25, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

You did?! What version is it? GBA or Supernintendo? (or...playstation???)AlVan 16:30, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

It's SNES, as the 3 implies. Jimcloud 16:50, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

Is the soon to be released port for the PSN the advanced version or the original ps version?

Characters section Edit

Since there's a lot of characters in FFVI, the section about the characters is blocky and quite annoying to read. I'm wondering whether I should arrange the names and descriptions of the characters into bullet points like it would be done in other articles. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 20:51, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea to me. That's how it is commonly done in other game articles too.Keltainentoukokuu 21:47, December 20, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I've been gone a while. I'll get right on it. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 21:26, January 1, 2012 (UTC)

Rumors About It's Japanese Reception Edit

I've heard that FFVI wasn't that well received in japan due to the female leads. Naturally I do not believe this as it gotten two ports at least (PSX, GBA) and did well enough to pave the way for VII. I'd like to know the truth behind these rumors. --ReiKusanagi 09:35, March 4, 2012 (UTC)

That makes no sense... Unless, of course, Japan reviewers are secretly misogynistic. But still, if FFV's cast is whittled down to one male and three females by the end of the game, why wouldn't FFV be criticized? This just seems... fishy. Actually, the right word would be bull****. No. That rumor is plain, utter blasphemy under Kefka's awesomeness. (Oh, I properly capitalized your section headline. Some people get pissed if something isn't capitalized/said with proper grammar. I'm not one of them. I'm just nice.) 67.244.5.142 01:54, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
I suspected that myself but wanted to be sure. While FFVI was riddled with various small bugs, it was a sizable step up from past games. That and the fact it was Terra that was chosen to be in Dissidia (despite being chickified in some fashions) also goes against the rumor. Honestly I find it hard to tell as the series didn't really make it big until FF7. FF6 was massively popular in the niche known as RPG fandom before 7 came along. It may have been a knocking point if FF6 wasn't so good as Japan does have a misogynistic streak sometimes. Thanks for the answer.--ReiKusanagi 09:12, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
A sizable step up from past games? That is true, but I must say I enjoyed IV as much as VI. I liked the characters from IV as much as VI. the characters were either badass (Cecil, Kain, Fusoya, Yang), sexy (Rosa, Rydia), cute (Porom, Palom), or completely useless (Tellah, that spoony bard whose name I forgot, was it... Edward? :P). Also, wasn't the Final Fantasy already popular? And I'm pretty sure VII didn't spark popularity, although it's praise is well deserved. Other than that, I guess we can agree. If Terra wasn't in Dissidia, who would represent VI? Certainly not Celes... But I guess sometimes, Japan critics act like a reverse Ultros (The After Years) (Ugh, I hate feminine females! Especially ones that can morph into fairies!). ... Even I wonder if I understood that :P. Oh, and your welcome. 67.244.5.142 21:02, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not saying IV wasn't very good, it's just that in many ways it was as an inbetween of a Nes game and Snes game. VI had a IV quality story and improved upon it. Before VII, FF was mainly popular among RPG fans only, not all the millions that brought VII. Even then, Square was the biggest name in RPGs in the US. I do see VII in a bittersweet light as it basically started a slow but sure downward slide of Square.--ReiKusanagi 22:52, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
What I was trying to say was that I thought that IV was equal if not sometimes superior to VI in my opinion. But you do have a good point, the Final Fantasy series was mostly played by RPG fans only until VII arrived, and every decent video game player with a PlayStation was expected to have a copy. Oh, and I do agree, after about VII, they started getting great, (before, all in the series were rated either Awesomely Epic or Epicly Awesome.) (though IX was and still is an old favorite of mine), and after X is when they got mediocre. I've always attempted not to blame the newly formed Square Enix, even when it seemed like the most logical and obvious choice. I think it was the genre change from RPG to MMORPG, Final Fantasy just isn't a good candidate for a MMORPG, I believe Pokemon would make an awesome MMORPG, but not Final Fantasy. This is why I think XIII is a highlight in the series, which has a beautiful musical soundtrack and pristine graphics (though graphics don't make a masterpiece). And now here we are, at XIV, a failiure of an MMORPG (although, they plan to release it on the PS3 with improvements to overall everything in the game.). We can only hope that XV will be a return to the series' standards, both on quality, and a return to the RPG genre. (I'm sorry I seemed like an asshat, or whatever. :P) 67.244.5.142 23:35, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Doom/Vanish bug and others Edit

Doom/Vanish bug, and using curative items on undead were billed as strategies in the Nintendo Power players guide. Worth mentioning? See (holy crap eddited since pasting the URL apparently just stuck the whole image in the text let me try that again) [1] and [2]

About hacksEdit

RPGOne retranslationEdit

RPGOne, a group of fans, did a literal translation of the Japanese Snes version without the changes of the US version. The characters use the name they have in Japanese version, for instance, Terra is Tina in this translation. They included fixes for some glitches.

Is this translation important enough to be told in the page? Zegame (talk) 04:02, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

Sound restoration hackEdit

The sound in the GBA version of FF6 is bad, but there is a patch (Sound Restoration Hack) that replaces the music with the original music from the SNES version. The GBA version of FF5 has problems with sound too, but there is a Sound Restoration Hack. The colors in the GBA version of FF6 are brighter, but there is a color restoration hack. I did not find the patches without a rom file.

I think it is important to tell about the restoration patches, because the GBA version is updated, but the sound is bad. Zegame (talk) 04:02, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

No, to both points. Doreiku Kuroofangu 04:08, October 10, 2012 (UTC)
We don't have much info on roms on the wiki, although the wiki does cover notable fan translations. For a fan translation to be notable it's usually because it was the only English version available for a large quantity of people for a length of time. I think there are many re-translations of FFVI for roms floating around.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 14:08, October 10, 2012 (UTC)
If the GBA version has worse sound quality than original, then it should be elaborated on on the GBA version section. Is this because GBA being a handheld having tiny speakers that make poor sound or because it was ported poorly? What about GBA versions of other FFs?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 14:14, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

Other than the really important fan translations we generally don't cover patches. Maybe make a directory of patches or something, a la Project:Suggested Links. C A T U S E 18:17, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

I understand. That fan retranslation is not notable.

The sound was poorly ported to GBA. If you want to test the hacks that restore the Snes sound, they are (without ROM links): Sound Restoration hack for FF6, Sound Restoration hack for FF5. And the Color Restoration hack for FF6. I think they are recommended. If they deserve to be here, then the page should tell about them. Zegame (talk) 05:21, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

It's a bit iffy to openly suggest people to rather play the rom with hacks than the real deal. I'll try mention something about the sound though.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:28, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Changing image for mobile releaseEdit

I think we can change the image used on the mobile release section. The image implies the "espier" typo is still there, which it isn't. I have a few storyline images I could upload too, and honestly anything will do except that since it's outdated.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 01:52, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

Huh, that one works pretty well. Thanks Kelt ^.^--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 16:44, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
