[edit] GBA version?
I was wondering about where it saisthat it was rereleased for the PlayStation and Game boy advanced, but I was on nintendo.com, and it sais it's not going to be released on the GBA until February 5, 07. I'm alittle confused. --Parad0x 05:22 January 22, 2007
- Are you sure you're not confusing it with the GBA version of Final Fantasy VI which is being released on that date? --Auron Kaizer 16:50, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] SNES Emulator version
How do I buy items or services in this game? In order to do so I have to turn on turbo mode and hold down "buy" and while doing that I have to hit the "up" button, what's the deal? It's the same with FFII(North American FFIV), or FFIV(Original Japanese version in a translated form.) Any answers for me?
- I suggest a better emulator, if you have to jump through hoops like that just to buy things. You certainly don't have to in any emulator I've used, or in the non-emulated game.
- Use Snes9x or ZSNES LReyomeXX 14:24, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
I think I need to try ZSNES I have gotten better results with problem ROMs in that program. Thanks.
[edit] More Differences with GBA Version
Just about everything except for the names of the characters have been changed between the SNES and GBA versions (my family has both). Would it be wiser to have notes noting the difference or a separate page altogether?
---The Klingon Jedi 08:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- If it were up to me, I'd base all the articles on the only good translation, the GBA one. But NO. --Auron Kaizer 14:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Shut up. The old translation is cool, man. Not only is it better for comic relief, but it also gave us The Power of Cheese. But TKJ is right. We should have a page like that. --Crazyswordsman 15:27, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- When I write articles for remakes, I use the most recent names (or the best in my opinion). While not everyone agrees with this, if they don't like it, they are welcome to change it themselves; this is a wiki after all.--Goldberry2000 16:41, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well, yeah, I guess using Ptons, Ethrs and Lixrs is fun. Not to mention summoning Jinn. --Auron Kaizer 16:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going to assume that you mean Potions, Ethers, Elixers, and... a glass of Gin.--Goldberry2000 16:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hehe, just finished "The Power of Cheese". I'm now very glad I never played any of the old FF translations. :P Diablocon 17:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- I just finished it also; I particuarly liked the summaries at the start of each episode reminding you that cecil is a terrorist.--Goldberry2000 17:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- It's not Ptons, Ethrs, and Lixrs. It's Cure1, Cure2, Cure3, Ether1, Ether2, and Elixir. --Crazyswordsman 17:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- To use FFIV language: Same..........spoony.........the thing! --Auron Kaizer 18:32, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Too bad I don't know how to access the secret files
Caves of Narshe has a great system, where you can change the language to match that of a certain release. --Crazyswordsman 22:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hack 'em. Or do you have some kind of moral and ethics code? -_O --Auron Kaizer 00:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know how to hack. I do have a moral and ethics code, but it doesn't cover hacking. --Crazyswordsman 01:00, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

| I've been meaning to ask this for some time now, what exactly do we mean by de-wikifying an article? I'd love to improve the FFIV page but I can't seem to find anywhere on the site instructions on how to de-wikify it or whatever.

| Which is pretty much what happened with this article and all the main game articles. To de-wikify is basically just to change it and/or rewrite it in a way to distinguish it from Wiki's page. Really there is nothing at all wrong with the article per se.

| I don't understand the following:
- The party switching system from the GBA version (along with the two added dungeons, monsters and equipments) is gone, instead replaced by an ability system similar to FFV's job system. Characters now can learn abilities from former party members (as well as bosses and NPCs) that can be arranged to be used in battle.
Does that means that you cannot switch members anymore at the tower of prayers and the Cecil-Edge-Rosa-Rydia-Kain party from the end of the game is the final party without changes????

| Considering Palom does more damage than Rydia, and Porom is so much better as a White Mage than Rosa, I'm kinda peeved that I can't switch the party members out. But still, it's FF4 for the DS, so there isn't going to be much complaining from me. I heard about a way to get Yang in your party instead of Edge, but I doubt that this is true.

- Whoa, whoa, whoa! Whoa. "Palom does more damage than Rydia"? Lies! Rydia can easily surpass Palom if she has the Bluff Augment (actually quite easy to get!), plus there are a lot more useful Augments for her that you can't even get with Palom in the party (Fast Talker FTW!). In fact, you don't even need Bluff to get higher potential damage than Palom; all you need is Bahamut (guaranteed 7k+). Kroq-Gar 23:01, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] "Red Wings" is not a Star Wars reference.
The name of the group in Star Wars was "Red Squadron". They would have likely fixed it in the GBA version of the game if that was what it was intended to be translated as.--MarioFanaticXV 05:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Order of character mention in Story section
I know this will sound petty, but in the Story section, the order of the characters stated goes ALMOST by order joined. Is there any reason that the order cannot be switched to order of appearance? Rosa and Cid are both revealed earlier in the game, and obviously as a partly personal matter, I feel Rosa would warrant a mention closer to the male leads of the game given the importance placed upon her relationship to those male leads. Cecil is mentioned first, then Kain is mentioned, then Rydia, all in joining order, but then there is an aberration of mentioning Rosa before Tellah and Edward, which breaks the "joining order" pattern. As it stands, it gives me the impression that Rydia is taken as a more important character because the order does not remain faithful to joining order, and as far as I've seen it in most cases, the accepted order would be order of importance followed by order of appearance.
If the wiki itself has an established format on how to approach the order of character mention in the story section, or if a case can be made in favor of leaving it as-is, I will not pursue this any further. It is NOT a hot button, red alert issue to me, it simply seems like there is some bias in the order. If I do not hear anything, I will assume it is okay to alter the Story section to reflect order of appearance. However, if I DO hear something and it is decided to leave it at joining order, Tellah and Edward should be mentioned prior to Rosa, in keeping with the established pattern. A wiki that endeavours to be encyclopedic in nature typically aims to avoid bias, and the order as it stands implies at least some level of bias by not sticking firmly to one order pattern in when characters are mentioned. -- PaladinCecil 06:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

| This could just be my crappy computer, but the whole DS section stretches way over to the right, and the navigation templates go with it. No freaking clue what to do here.

[edit] Difference Section
That rerelease section is bulky. What if we create a new article titled "Final Fantasy IV/Version Differences", and note the changes there? Seems to make since, since the SNES, GBA and DS releases all play quite differently from each other and have many differences. Drake Clawfang 23:26, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hm, I'm generally against subpages, but then I remembered about the FFVI page. If we can put similar information to that there, and leave the rest here with template Main, would that suffice? The information does belong on this page, so I think most should be kept here. — YuanSaluto!Acta 06:50, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well I'm not sure we need that Name Change page, since the Magic and Relic lists cover the name changes. But FF4 isn't as simple as name changes - we're talking battle system overhauls, items and spells changed/altered, abilities removed or changed, and new extra features. As I said, to an extent the three versions all play as different games. Hell, even Wikipedia gave the DS release its own page. Not saying we should do the same, but the changes between each version seem a bit drastic to just put here as bulletpoints. Drake Clawfang 06:56, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- TBH, a name differences IS WANTED at very least. And from in-game checking too. Our FFIV enemies have incorrect PS names, I don't feel I have the time to check them all personally. We usually use GameFAQs, but having an on-wiki list of name differences can help, especially me when I need to translate to latest version.
- Version differences can lay their too, but most version differences can stay on this page. I Lion Heart I 15:08, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] DS Quicksave
There seems to be no mention of the Quicksave feature on the DS version, which you can use if you suddenly need to quit the game for some unforseen reason, or to charge the battery on your DS.

| Hey! I was wondering if someone knows where I can find the novelations of Final Fantasy IV and/or the After Years translated? I really wanted to read them and I can't find it anywhere in the web (only FFVII novels). Is there a website who has translated them?

[edit] Similarities with 2001: A Space Oddysey
I've just reseen the film by Stanley Kubrick and I've found some similarities between its plot and the one of FFIV, there they go:
- In FFIV the Lunarians came to the moon from another planet, and there, they observed the earthlings and stated their wish to live together when the earthlings evolved enough for this convivence. Kluya builds the Lunar whale and travels to the earth, where he teaches his white magic to the earthlings and falls in love with Cecilia, and he also has two sons with her: Theodor and Cecil.
- In 2001 the Monoliths came, apparently, from Jupiter, and they are signs of inteligent beings other that humans. It reaches both the earth (The Dawn of Man) and the moon, where it is found buried (Zemus?). It seems that this "technology" (the monoliths) has something to do with evolution, since every stage of the humans has learned something important about technology in each contact (so, if the monoliths give lessons... are these the crystals or the very teacher lunarians
like Kluya?), the homo habilis learns to use tools, the 2001 homo sapiens sapiens accelerates his conquer of the space... and... whatever happens in the ending hehe.
- The Crystal Palace and the chamber of the mirrors where Cecil changes jobs are both very simmilar to the "mansion" of the final vision that the third monolith reveals.
- In FFIV: The After Years the sleeping lunarians in the sleep room show some resemblance to the astronauts that where put on stasis on the Discover spaceship from 2001.
For your consideration for being added if you wish, in the Final Fantasy IV article (maybe in the trivia or in another section). Answer me as soon as possible.
Thanks for your time.

| I think it's a stretch. The only similarities between the game and the movie are that both feature an alien civilasation featuring some form influence over another civilasation (by means of an artifact, one which is not even the same) and that both are awesome. There's little else in common regarding content and form.

[edit] "and new dungeons with new items and weapons along with new bosses. T"
This is fairly useless as information. This is the FF wiki, after all, so can't we just go ahead and list the major additions for the remakes?Glorious CHAOS! 20:26, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Semicolons
Faethin, I don't want you thinking I'm talking out of my ass, so please look at Wikipedia's article on semicolons. It describes exactly what I did as a proper usage. -98.21.70.114 06:02, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, because Wikipedia is 100% accurate and reliable for all your informational needs... Drake Clawfang 06:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, reading that article, the whole semi-colon usage in lists...I've read so many books and magazines in my life, and I cannot ever recall seeing them used that way. No clue what that is, but it's the first I've ever seen it. Drake Clawfang 06:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- That is because most people don't pay any attention in English class and, as a result, don't know that that rule exists. The ugly truth is that most people, even those who write for a living, don't really know how to write. -98.21.70.114 06:38, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Since you did bother to include a reference, I won't think you're talking out of your ass. I'm too lazy to go through the whole history and the matter seems to have been settled. I bet rephrasing was our better option. Faethinte audio 14:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- The anon is right. When a member of a list includes a comma, the list's commas are to be replaced by semicolons. 6th year English, at the latest. Eric Ryan Jones 21:21, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
