What should be added here? --Silver Mage 10:19, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Everything. Final Fantasy IV translations I think is a good example. ILHI 19:07, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Moves[]
I finished adding every move that is in the Japanese version of the game on to this page (still need English names, of course). However, I do not know Romaji so that field is blank for a huge portion of the moves. I would just like to express my gratitude up front to whoever takes on the job of filling those fields in. :) --Oranejo 01:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you need help with Romaji, you could try to contact Hecko X, although I'm not sure if he visits Wikia a lot. Or Chocolancer, I think he knows what he's doing. Romaji is the conversion of Japanese characters into Roman characters, so you'll need to find someone who knows Japanese to do that. ILHI 12:14, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't we include the EX Burst attacks as well? In particular, I'm curious if Gabranth's Quickenings are really intended to be differently named from Basch's, or if they're botched translations. Drake Clawfang 02:02, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Meo Twister[]
Flintlock Vitor - I don't need to prime my cannon to use abilities TALK - I can't hear anything outside of this hat, kupo... {{{time}}}
So... while there is a Meo Twister, it's not Meo Twister A/B but rather Meo Twister (ground)/(midair) A/B. Would we put N/A for those? It seems to follow the same rules as Free Energy and Slice & Dice (which ARE marked N/A) when it comes to "different move due to different usage". Though in the case of Meo Twister the old A/B have been removed and the new Meo Twister branches are for different moves.
The problem with putting N/A for Meo Twister is that it is not the same as the two other that you mentioned. Meo Twister is a Brv-HP move in both versions, where as Free Energy is a Brv-HP move in the JPN version but a stand alone HP move in the NA version. Take a look at what I just did with how the move is listed and see if you think it is ok like that. Or we could just add the NA only moves to this page but leave the other fields besides English blank until Dissidia Universal Tuning is released? Of course we would probably have to put a footnote indicating that it is a NA/Universal Tuning move only.

I guess that works, even though again the moves don't branch off the same moves as the Japanese version. But eh.
110.55.179.14 16:48, January 7, 2010 (UTC) You can translate Kanji in this site http://www.romaji.org/ 110.55.179.14 16:48, January 7, 2010 (UTC)
You have to be REALLY careful when you translate Kanji, though, because there are multiple readings for each kanji. You can't always tell whether a kanji is read with its "on" or "kun" reading. Unfortunately, I have not gotten to that point in learning Japanese where I can tell how (either its "on" or "kun") to read any given kanji in a context. Violetmage♥ 18:35, January 8, 2010 (UTC)
The on'yomi reading is generally used when the word is in a compound, while kun'yomi is used when the word is by itself. There are exceptions to this rule - verbs come to mind - but this is an easy rule to remember. Transliterations are annoying, yes.
For the fan translations, are we looking for direct, or those that match the English version? For example, should Cloud's move be translated as "Omnislash" or "Super Ultimate War God Supreme Slash" (or whatever it's called)? — YuanSalve!Acta 23:59, January 12, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that! Now I know something about Japanese that I did not know before! Yay! In my opinion, the fan translations should probably be what the term literally means in Japanese. Otherwise the "Fan Translation" column would basically repeat what the English translation column already says. Violetmage♥ 01:45, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
Fan-made translations column for ALL tables?[]
I'd understand why it's there for the characters but must that column be present in all the categories? I thought the default should just be Japanese/Romaji/English as is present in other translation articles. Mierna 11:13, November 12, 2011 (UTC)
