The japanese kana for Blank's name is actually the name for Jitan Tribal. ^^;

The kana of 'blank' would be 'ブランク', but I don't know anything about FFIX, and so couldn't say if it's correct for the character's name..

On my screen it reads ジタン・トライバル -- Jitan Toraibaru. I'm not sure how it would show up wrong for me and right for you, but it could be an error because of my computer..?

		Someone must've copy/pasted Zidane's box, but neglected to correct/remove the kana. And you are right, Blank would be ブランク. On a sidenote, it's called roumaji (rōmaji), not rōmanji. On a second sidenote, バ is ba, not bu. Bu is ブ. So it's Toraibaru.

		It seems to me that those stitches on Blank's body are from injuries he recieved long ago and the belt over his eyes may suggest that he is blind.

		They meant officially. There's nothing I recall from the game itself, but that doesn't mean there's nothing in Ultimania or some other official release. On the other hand, the question is a year old, so I'd guess there either isn't an answer or it's not the most important detail. For that matter, very little is actually explained about the character designs from FFIX. You have tons of non-humans running around with no explanation at all (minus Burmecians/Cleyrans, Qu, Summoners, and the Black Mages), and two people of unusual stature and blue skin who are treated like normal humans for inexplicable reasons, not to mention Marcus. In some cases, it's just easier to go with it. ;)

		The assumption I made on the character design was purley based on my personal thoughts I did not receive this information from any official source.

Blank's name inspired by Louis Auguste Blanqui or the epithet "blanquist" in general?

Blanquist is usually used as shorthand for a kind of "revolutionary opportunism" carried out by a small group. This may well describe the tantalus crew.
