Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Bestiary (Final Fantasy XII)". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Stop, halt, woooow! Before you put too much effort into this and wast your time, then stop. All enemies will get their own articles with enemy-specific information, such as stats, bestiary info, etc. They will all belong in the same category, where all the names (for obvious reasons) will be listed. In other words, there's no use for a bestiary-article. --Hecko X 17:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Seriously ? One page for each fiend ? That is tons of work! Renmiri 17:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Do my redirect pages bother you ? Because it will look tidier with all links in blue and it will make it easier to list them all, just do "what links here" to the bestiary. Renmiri 17:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
You can always take of the redirect as each page gets done. Renmiri 17:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Every monster does indeed get its own page. CSM made a page for every VI enemy, so it's possible. Please stop these redirects, they're flooding the recent changes page, and making it hard ot spot our recent vandal (they struck again, but were buried in all these redirects). Diablocon 17:53, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. It is possible with one page per enemy. It will look pretty stupid with a Bestiary with a lot of enemy templates all over. Besides, the last time someone tried a Bestiary article, it got deleted. --Auron Kaizer 17:55, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Allright.. Stopped. Renmiri 18:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

I was almost going to delete this article[]

But then I realized it could have a place written the way it is. Now, I won't have time to go in and start writing enemy pages until Spring Break. I'm in the process of turning all these redirects into stubs. Once someone sticks good quality pics of the FFXII enemies on teh intarweb, we'll be able to talk about making a proper template. Man, this is going to be a long project, especially since FFXII hasn't been ripped apart yet. The reason why it's been easy for FFVI is because of all the hackjobs done by Master ZED and Djbriel. --Crazyswordsman 16:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

No probs, I can start stubifying them now. I've been trying to make a good XII enemy template, but my template abilites are mediocre at best.
And I am surprised no one hasn't ripped it apart yet. It's been out 11 months in Japan now, you'd think someone would have by now. At least the enemy stats are easy to find. Maybe we should focus on games like V, where enemy sprites are readily availabe? Diablocon 16:35, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
We have had such a template for almost two months. And to my defense, I didn't make it and I haven't messed with it, so if it looks crappy and wrong and so on, I ain't the one to blame. Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of that... As for the images, we can always just use the bestiary pics, until something better comes along, in which case we can just upload over the old ones. --Hecko X 16:50, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry, a quick look at the history shows you had no involvement. That is the template I've been trying to edit, because I see an error or two:
  1. Colour of the title is wrong, XII doesn't use green, it uses the Dark Blue
  2. Enemies drop 4 types of items, not two, and the percentage drop depends on the chain level.
  3. Missing a level field, since you can encounter the same enemy at different levels.
I'm sure I've missed some things. I'll have a crack at editing it again later, since I've gotten more practice. Diablocon 16:56, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

There are still some redirects still lying aroound.[]

Diablo and Hecko, I'm leaving this in your hands now, since I don't really know how to use this template. --Crazyswordsman 19:09, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Aye aye. I'm currently doing Rare Game just now, since that template is fully complete (plus they're the easiest to write about). I'm sure there only must 2 or 3 redirects left. Diablocon 19:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Two-three? Guess again. --Auron Kaizer 20:02, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Ok, 22 it would seem. Diablocon 20:04, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, thought I was helping :( Renmiri 01:50, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
On the good news, I am ripping all the fiends images. Just look for them here, take what you need Renmiri 01:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Those are some nice rips, Ren, but what we're really looking for is a graphic of the monster on a white background, not Ultimania pics. I really don't know how I want to integrate the Ultimania guides into the Wiki yet, but I definitely want to do it. --Crazyswordsman 06:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Ren, if you could scan them in a slightly higher quality and save as .PNG (or .BMP) instead of .JPG, I'm guessing that Lucy and I will be able to remove the excess text and white space. Try with one before going nuts with it, in case it doesn't work or we can't remove the excess material. --Hecko X 11:31, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
  • All scanned! Too late to do png, but quality improved a lot! See here. I have the same images in bmp, not numbered correctly though. Let me know if you prefer BMP, I can put it on an FTP directory for ya. Renmiri 20:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry not in white, they all look exactly like the on screen bestiary. I like it though Renmiri 20:54, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
BMP=BAD. --Crazyswordsman 01:42, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
BMP = More information = No loss of data = Better editing options = better images. Only thing that sucks is that all the information takes up a lot of space. But Ren, no reason to do that, I can get those images myself, perhaps in a slightly better quality. --Hecko X 05:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Ah, not a single redirect in sight.[]

That's how I like it. --Crazyswordsman 20:18, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Complete List of fiends[]

  • If anyone wants, the alpha list (and corresponding picture #) is at my sandbox Renmiri 03:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Ren, if you're going to start uploading images, you'll need to put a description in the filename. Uploading an image such as Ffxii212 isn't allowed because no one will be able to recognize what the image is of from the filename. --Crazyswordsman 03:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
      • FFXII212.jpg corresponds to card # 212 on the on screen bestiary (same number in the Brady Guide). Meh... Hecko said he can get fiend images at better quality (above) so I won't bother Renmiri 17:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Checklist[]

Just something I put together in about 90 minutes (copy and paste from a full walkthrough, followed by two or three parses by a quick Python script). Maybe it'll look good in the article? Maybe add some links, information, thread marks and rares among locations (sans a numeral), etc, etc....

(copied to article)

We already have a page listing the creatures by Genus. But this one is also a good idea. We should do it for all the Bestiaries in the Final Fantasy series. [^_^]/ 06:48, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Formatting[]

Eeeeeh...do we want this list formatted like this?. All the different sections are uneven so it may not look so pretty... Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:20, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Humanoids[]

Why aren't humanoids included in the list?

This should be the list as it appears in the game. Final Fantasy XII enemies should include all enemies in the game.Keltainentoukokuu 17:23, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Also I found an error, Dead Bones is listed here twice (numbers 41 and 202), which leaves me wondering what enemy is the actual number 202?
HMMMMMMM. Thanks for pointing it out. The actual enemy pages label Emeralditan as #202.Keltainentoukokuu 03:50, March 8, 2012 (UTC)

Entries[]

Do you think we should include entries for all beastiary entries, but I think just the first page? You know, each enemy has its own page in beastiary filled and we have this entries only listed on their pages, but not on a collective page, something like "Bestiary (Final Fantasy XII)/Entries". I think that these short descriptions would also apply on the other Beastiary articles as some game do have some sort of information regarding the enemy.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 08:38, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

More like "Bestiary (Final Fantasy XII)/Dalmasca" and "Bestiary (Final Fantasy XII)/Giza Plains" etc. I would say.
Doing this was discussed briefly on another page (perhaps Kelt's talk page). We would take the descriptions from the enemy's page and make a system like we do for the Datalog. Also by each description we'll use the picture of the enemy that the enemy pages used to use (these ones).
Adding full bestiary info has been done before. We currently have Collections showing the FFI bestiary. And at some point I'll get around to adding the FFII bestiary to that page also. 79.69.196.20 14:39, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
Speaking of the entries, has anyone noticed how most of them start with the word "Being", even when it makes no sense? Almost like it's supposed to be a description of what kind of "being" (i.e. creature) it is and it should read "Being: A form of blah blah blah" and they forgot the colon. Always creates this weird grammatical disconnect for me when I read the entries... astralphoenix777 (talk) 08:01, October 18, 2012 (UTC)
Not really. It's like me saying, "Being left handed, I..." and so forth; it does make sense. There's no forgotten colon, that's simply how the sentence progresses. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 08:07, October 18, 2012 (UTC)
