1772?
Edit
An annon removed a bit about Beatrix being born in April 1772. Now, unless Beatrix is over 200 years old, I'm guessing that was just pure Vandalism. Did nine-year-old Beatrix fight at the Battle of Yorktown? Yet, it seems to have been around since 2007, and earlier than that. How could this have been missed for so long? If it isn't Vandalism, anybody care to explain?

The years in Final Fantasy IX take place in that time. I can't cite the game at this time (it's really late), but if you head to Lindblum and check the statue of Regent Cid VIII (I think), it gives some dates that are around the 1700 year. Of course, this is a Final Fantasy calendar, so they just chose some random century to palce it in that might not even correspond with our calendar.

Rivalry
Edit
Hey, I don't ever recall the game talking about how Steiner/Beatrix's rivalry began. Where was it first mentioned? --aislingyngaio 14:33, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- I always assumed sexual tension. --BlueHighwind ツ 14:35, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- lol no I meant this section:
Beatrix views Adelbert Steiner, the Captain of the Knights of Pluto and a warrior in her senior, as a rival. This rivalry originates from an unexpected, and in many viewpoints very lucky victory of Steiner against Beatrix in a practice match when she was 18 years old (Steiner at time being 23). Since her humiliating loss, she has further devoted herself in art of war and knighthood.
I don't ever remember this being mentioned before. --aislingyngaio 14:38, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I just finished watching Kill Bill vol. 2 and noticed something. The name of The Bride is revealed to be Beatrix, and her arch-rival, Elle, is missing her right eye. Coincidence?

No, it's actually the most prominent of a series of clues Hironobu Sakaguchi has left all around the series as a form of tribute to Tarantino, whose father he met during the final stages of World War II when Private Tarantino was a POW. Sakaguchi was a kindly man and kept Mr Tarantino away from the torture chambers long enough for him to escape the POW camp. When said camp was later savagely bombed by the US navy Sakaguchi was amongst the few survivors who was able to escape into the jungle, only to be pursued and captured by the US navy and sent, in turn, to a POW camp in Okinawa. Mr Tarantino and Sakaguchi met again and as a gesture of gratitude the former kept the latter from being sent to forced labour. When the war was over, Mr Tarantino returned to his family but died in a motorcycle accident, leaving behind his wife and a young baby whose name was Quentin. Sakaguchi, moved by his friend's passing, decided to support the family until young Quentin went on to become a celebrated filmmaker. Young Quentin inherited his father's friendship with Sakaguchi thus, and ever afterwards the two men always get together for the holidays. They also like to include little easter eggs in their productions as tributes and references to each other's work.

And in case you couldn't tell he pulled all of that out of his ass, Tarantino's father, Tony Tarantino, is in fact alive and was an infant during WW2, while Sakaguchi wasn't born until the 60's. So coincidence, unless it is otherwise known that Quentin is a big Final Fantasy fan.

Trivia
Edit
Should it be added to trivia that Beatrix is in a very small selection of bosses in the series who are never beaten by the party? At the moment I can't even think of any others who qualify, so doubly so if she's the only one. Zuken 17:04, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
Beginning of the rivalry?

Can anyone tell me where this information comes from:
This rivalry originates from an unexpected, and in many viewpoints very lucky victory of Steiner against Beatrix in a practice match when she was 18 years old (Steiner at time being 23). I've never heard it before, and I've played the game more times then I can count. Ultimania perhaps? | |||
Lost Eye
Edit
Is it ever explained if she is actually missing an eye or just wearing the eyepatche for some reason? There is nothing on the page and I haven't finished IX yet, so I don't know.

Age
Edit
According to the timeline hosted here, the game's events take place January - March, so the April-born Beatrix has not had her 28th birthday yet during the game. Doreiku Kuroofangu 00:01, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. But Beatrix's profile specifically states her age is 28. 79.69.205.51 00:04, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
- The Ultimania specifically says 27 in one place and 28 in the other? Doreiku Kuroofangu 00:06, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
- The timelines give her a birthdate of April 1772, so we can work out that this would make her 27 (p.27, 44), her age given in her profile is 28 (p.25). 79.69.205.51 00:15, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
- And to remove all confusion a scan of her age in her profile next to a scan of her timeline. 79.69.205.51 00:21, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Way to go, Square-Enix, can't do basic math. Doreiku Kuroofangu 00:40, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
