Job and Equipment Suggestions[]

Can someone suggest me which jobs should I use and equipment on this fight? It's also my first playthrough of this game. Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 14:14, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

We have a designated space for game help. This isn't what enemy talk pages are for. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 14:16, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
*Ahem*, yes they are. If the article doesn't advise what jobs/weapons/abilities/combinations to use, then the article doesn't serve the purpose it should. If someone can't find the information they want from the wiki's mainspace, then it's doen it rong. 79.69.202.80 16:40, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
Enemy talk pages should not be used for inquiring about strategies. I agree minimal strategy should be included on enemy pages, but not on the talk pages. We have our own walkthrough space for that. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 17:23, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
Information I have asked for on talk pages have later being inserted into articles. If I have difficulty beating enemies, I usually put comments on the talk page regarding that enemy. One reason is because it's easier than opening a forum, and two is because it is something I would have expected to find in the article anyway (and if the information is given, should be emulated into the article). Admittedly, the user in this instance didn't do it for the second reason, but if they were answered here, then information from the response would more likely enter the article than if it were at a forum page.
Well, that's just my opinion anyway. I know we have this "discussion and help in games goes in the forums" but I don't see the harm other than NEW DISSIDIA INFORMATION taking up lots of space.
I don't know why I'm still typing, I already made my point. 79.69.206.13 20:36, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

One thing is asking for a strategy, or in this case, a personal suggestion, which should be done in the designated forum space. Another is pointing and discussing the lack of a strategy in an enemy article, which is what should be done on these pages. Enemy articles without strategies are stubs, which is pointed in the MoS. - Henryacores^ 20:43, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Chain Detonation[]

This is an attack I have basically confirmed as non-existent, but a lot of bosses seems to have it listed in their abilities? Does anybody care to fix this?IronGasoline (talk) 11:37, November 7, 2018 (UTC)

Interesting. Is there anything all of these bosses have in common, like a unique death animation or something? Maybe it is something that got put into enemy abilities for some reason.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 12:59, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
They seem all to be bosses that have more than one form/change form during battle? Maybe it refers to them changing.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 16:13, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
The ability lists and their names come from the data. The ability is named ゆうばく in Japanese, "Explosion" in RPGe, Reploder in PS, and Chain Detonation in GBA.
I assume its used/was meant to be used as a special script ability for death animations. Ramuh, Catoblepas, Sekhmet, Sandworm, 2 Exdeaths, Archeoaevis, Gilgamesh, and Stalker are the enemies who have it in their attack list.
However, one interesting thing about this ability is that Crystal Dragon actually has it as its Catch/Release ability, so you should be able to see its name in game. When used as a Release ability it acts the same as a normal Attack as far as I know, so it's likely this was set as a programming error.
Apparently this was changed in the iOS version and the ability was removed (at least from Crystal Dragon). JBed (talk) 17:11, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
Great info. When I googled Chain Detonation there was nothing but our wiki.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:37, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I was surprised about that. Internet info is sparse for FFV, even this which I thought was the perfect guide for RPGe doesn't specifically note it by name and just calls CrysDragon's Catch ability "Fight".
For evidence of its GBA name, the Nintendo Power FFV Advance guide. JBed (talk) 19:26, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
Okay, scratch what I said. I looked up the AI of Archaeoaevis and it literally is just a physical attack. Archeoaevis randoms between Chain Detonation, Breath Wing, and its Special (Sap). So my guess is either (A) it was supposed to be a special attack but it just isn't, or (B) it does something different I don't know about.
For comparison, Big Bridge Gilgamesh has two AI patterns, one while he has 2500 or more HP, and one when he has less (where he'll use Jump).
While he has 2500+ HP, he uses Attack, when he has less he uses Chain Detonation.
The Nintendo Power Guide does not list Chain Detonation in its attack list. JBed (talk) 19:55, November 7, 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much for clearing that up! It was driving me crazy. Where can you find this information? I just looked up AI Scripts and ability lists.IronGasoline (talk) 04:07, November 8, 2018 (UTC)
The data on the FFV enemy pages comes from a program I wrote just to generate the wiki's enemy article data. The guide I linked to earlier would have been generated in the same way so it should have all the same data, however its creator for some reason didn't reference the ability name list so they just conflated the mysterious Chain Detonation/Explosion ability (0xDE) with "Fight" (0x80).
You can see this same information yourself if you have the GBA ROM and this editor, which has the AI of enemies. The program decides to use RPGe names for the abilities (for some reason), but this at least makes the difference clear. So Archeoaevis's AI, for example, shows up as:

ChooseAttack:Explosion BreathWing Specialty
ENDFF

Conditions:0F 00 00 00
UnhideMonster:82 40

Which matches up with the AI script found here:
{Fight,Breath Wing,Specialty}
React:Death{
     Unhide Monster: ArchaeAvis (2nd form)
     }
And Big Bridge Gilgamesh's:
