Ninja?[]
I don't think he is a Ninja. He may have the Throw command, but that's where the Ninja similarities end. Everything else about him screams Monk. Diablocon 17:34, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- You could say the same about Kimahri being a blue mage, he only has it as his overdrive, nothing else about him is truly blue mage StijnX 17:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- The only thing that is truly Blue Mage is using Blue Mage abilities. Kimahri can use these, hence he is a Blue Mage. Anything else would be nigh-idiotic. --Auron Kaizer 18:34, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- While a Ninja is usually classified as a person who Throws, equips Katanas, has a high Speed rating and can Dual Wield. Amarant only has throw, and none of the others. Diablocon 18:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Leon5550 Kimahri IS a blue mage!!! Jesus, he's even BLUE!!!!
- uh oh, Kimahri also wields a Spear... and has a Jump overdrive ability... he must be a Dragoon! .. duh! Kimarhi is BOTH Blue Mage AND Dragoon, as well as Amarant is ALL of it... Ninja for throwing stuff, Monk for his fists and Chakra... and even Samurai, because he can throw Gil (okay he's Ninja:Samurai:Monk -> 1:1:2... good enough for you?)...

But what me annoyes me more, is... why does he has so many names?... Salamander in japanese, Amarant in US, and Mahagon in german (okay all this refferes to the colour red, but... what the hell?) The german idiotic translators also renamed one of his attacks in "Mahagomeha" <-- kame hame ha... get it?... idiots (the german traslators XD) --Haitani 12:39, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe it's because he joins the party at the Lifa Tree?
- "Immortal amarant, a flower which once
- In paradise, fast by the tree of life,
- Began to bloom; but soon for man's offence
- To heaven removed, where first it grew, there grows,
- And flowers aloft, shading the fount of life,
- And where the river of bliss through midst of heaven
- Rolls o'er elysian flowers her amber stream:
- With these that never fade the spirits elect
- Bind their resplendent locks."

Elan?[]
What's "elan" supposed to mean? Is it a reference to Eblan from 4, or is it some real word with which I'm not familiar?
It's a real word which you're not familiar with. Elan or élan means "energy or flair" from Oxford Dictionary.
What the crap[]
This page suffers from an extreme case of 8 bolded names in the first paragraph... Is there anyway around that? Could the French and German names at least be moved to etymology or something? --Adonzo 20:52, March 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Old post, but I do agree with this. Just been reading through the article myself. Permission to move some of these into etymology or trivia? The constant bolding is quite distracting from the rest of the text. Tia-Lewise 16:11, July 17, 2012 (UTC)
Blue?[]
I always assumed Amarant was blue, but after looking at some of his artwork, and the letter in Dissida through Mognet saying he was a wander in blue, I actually think he might not have blue skin, but actually be wearing a whitish-blue shirt of some sort. The artwork depicts him with normal colored skin and wearing a large collared white shirt that includes the symbol on his arm. That being said his in-game model makes it hard to tell if he's wearing a shirt or if his skin is just that color. 69.59.98.19 09:04, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
- That symbol on his arm is a tattoo, as can be seen in the full body Amano artwork. So that's his bare, very blue, skin in game. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 10:13, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
Human?[]
Is there any official source that says Amarant's species is human? The only other "human" in the game he comes close to resembling is Queen Brahne, as they are both really tall and blue-skinned, suggesting that they are both of a race other than human. I recall Amarant being referred to as a "giant" at one point, and while it may have just been referring to his height, it could also very well be his race. All I'm saying is that there are two tall, blue-skinned characters in this game, heavily suggesting some kind of relation that sets them apart from humans. But if anyone can provide an official source that says that either of them are human, I'll concede. Dachimotsu (talk) 21:26, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
Brahne's not all that tall compared to the others. Fact is they're both human, and yes, "giant" refers solely to the fact that Amarant is a gigantic guy. TheSwedishElf (talk) 02:03, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, but is there proof of this "fact" is what I'm asking. How can one be 100% certain? Dachimotsu (talk) 06:26, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Why are you so adamant that we must prove 100% that he and Brahne aren't of a nonhuman species just cause they're both blue? You do know they were originally going to make Amarant caucasian, right? The blue skin is purely a stylistic choice. Don't put your little sarcasm quotes around the word "fact" there, this is not some fanon thing. Brahne is simply incredibly ugly and they thought Amarant would look cooler with blue skin, get over it. :/ TheSwedishElf (talk) 13:45, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
There's no need to be rude, and they weren't sarcasm quotes. I'm designing a game involving Final Fantasy races, and I just wanted to make absolutely certain that they were human. Dachimotsu (talk) 14:23, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I managed to find my answer. Top-right corner, page 22 of the Ultimania lists Amarant's race as "Human". So there's my proof. Dachimotsu (talk) 06:29, January 4, 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. That could be added to the article.
