StoryEdit

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

They are frequently mentioned during the storyline as contacts for Urianger and Minfilia. Later, during the Crystal Tower storyline, one of their members, G'raha Tia, is revealed to have been recruited by Cid and Rammbroes for the investigation.

Patches 2.1 and 2.2 seem to be building up to their involvement in future updates/expansions. At the end of A Realm Awoken, the Scions seem to lose contact with the Students of Baldesion. At the end of Through the Maelstrom, Urianger discovers that something happened to the Isle of Val, as though some great and powerful magic similar to Ultima and Meteor was used and the island was "utterly....gone."

In 3.1 As Goes Light, So Goes Darkness, the only known survivor, Krile arrives in Eorzea to help the Scions.

In 4.2 Rise of a New Sun, The Forbidden Land, Eureka was released as instanced side content that up to 144 players can explore simultaneously. Upon arriving and speaking with Krile, the player learns that Eureka is a new name for what turns out to have been the Isle of Val, somehow teleported halfway across the world and now seemingly deserted. Krile's goal during the exploration of Eureka is to both learn what happened and to see if any surviving members of the Students of Baldesion can be found on the island.

Spoilers end here.

TriviaEdit

  • The name "Baldesion," as well as the name "Krile" briefly mentioned by Minfilia suggests they are an allusion to Krile Mayer Baldesion and her grandfather, Galuf Halm Baldesion. The "Isle of Val" appears to be another allusion, possibly derived from common mistranslations of Bal Castle in certain localizations.
