Dr. Sid is an advocate of bio-etheric research - study on spiritual energy within lifeforms. A genius in wave theory, he discovered that each spirit has a wave pattern. In studying the wave emitted by Phantoms, he found that all phantoms carry similar wave patterns. Based on the fact that two opposing bio-etheric waves placed one over the other cancel each other out, he believed that a wave pattern assembled from Earth's lifeforms may disable the alien Phantoms.

The wave pattern, however, had to be assembled from different species, as there is no lifeform that carry the same basic wave. However, due to the Phantom invasion, many living things have been obliterated. Dr. Sid studied all remaining lifeforms around the world and found that the wave may be assembled by gathering eight lifeforms that carry these waves, named Spirits. According to Aki Ross, his protege, these Spirits are:

  1. Herself,
  2. A fish,
  3. A deer found in a wildlife preserve outside Moscow,
  4. A sparrow,
  5. The spirit of a girl,
  6. A plant collected from Old New York's Times Square,
  7. An ovo-pac, containing energy from a single-cell organism.

The eighth one was a Phantom spirit that had contact with the Earth's Gaia.

Assembling these wave patterns together created the perfect match to the alien Phantom's wave pattern. Aki Ross managed to transmit these waves through Gray Edwards, her lover who sacrificed his life to finish her and Dr. Sid's work. Since the Phantoms turned out to be spirits, or ghosts, themselves, the waves canceled each other and the Phantoms were erased from existence.
