Battle[]

Spirits appear with two Black Elements or two Halmas. It will cast Fira, Thundara, Watera, and Blizzara. When below 33% HP, it will cast Thundaga to heal itself. If targeted by anything, it has a 33% to counter with a Poison Mist attack that can cause Confusion and Poison on the party. When Provoked, it will cast White Wind on the party, rendering it harmless.

The Spirit will drop armor with Sleepproof and Magic Defense +20%. It will also drop weapons with Sleeptouch and Sleepstrike.

Strategy[]

The easiest way to defeat a Spirit is by using Provoke, which turns it from a threat into an ally. The player can then focus on other enemies and leave the Spirit for last.

If not using Provoke (e.g. on a No Sphere Grid run), the Spirit is a dangerous enemy. Reflect helps against its many spells, but not against Poison Mist, which requires the party members to have Confuseproof or Ribbon on their armor.

Etymology[]

The word spirit derives from Latin spiritus, "breath", has many meanings most relating to a non-corporeal substance contrasted with the material body. The word is often used metaphysically to refer to the consciousness or personality. The notions of a person's spirit and soul may overlap, as both are understood as surviving the bodily death in religion and occultism. "Spirit" can also have the sense of "ghost", i.e. a manifestation of a deceased person. The term may also refer to any incorporeal or immaterial being, such as demons or deities.
