The Spellblade is a Job in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, exclusive to viera. They can use swords to strike enemies and their abilities consist on inflicting status effects while damaging.
Spellblades use status-imbued swords such as Oil Blade, which coats the enemy with Oil, at which point an ally can attack with Fire-based attack for extra damage. Spellblades also have access to the potent Blood Price ability, which can easily be abused by a Red Mage, who can overcome the HP cost by double casting an attacking spell that includes herself in its range and wearing the appropriate elemental robe to absorb the damage as health.
Unlike the Fencer's ability like the most common one, Swarmstrike which can inflicts Poison with no MP cost, but half damage. The Spellblade compensates the both offensive and secondary effects into the attack with MP cost, but since Spellblade job is a type of advance job, the overall damage and MP cost is averaged.
A popular setup is to set Green Magick as the Spellblade's secondary, with the Spellbound Passive ability and Ribbon headgear equipped. This allows the Spellblade to Protect, Shell, Leap, and Tranq herself for long periods of time and cast many area of effect debuffs on enemies, even when she's in the spell's range. This combo is commonly called the Battlemage.
Despite the name "Blade arts", the A-abilities of the Spellblade can be used with a bow, and this leads to Snipers having Blade arts for their secondary ability. When used in conjunction with Turbo MP, the Sniper can alternate between a Mana-free Sniper attack and then a ranged Spellblade attack on the following turn.
Also worth noting is the havoc that can be wrought when combining the Spellblade's magicks with Doublecast from a Red Mage secondary -- Double the chance of a single debuff working, a chance of two debuffs in one fell swoop, as well as the advantage of the damage done by two strikes. The Spellblade's stat growth boasts the highest defense of the viera race, the only other noteworthy stats are her excellent Speed and average Attack stat but her abilities will benefit any bow wielder to cause both damage and a chance to inflict a debuff from a distance.
