Enchant weapons with different magics.

Description

Spellblade, also known as MagSwd and Sword, is an offensive ability of the Mystic Knight job class from Final Fantasy V. It involves imbuing the Mystic Knight's sword with a certain magic and using that magic on a single foe.

Obtained[]

After leveling up the Mystic Knight job, a character can have the Spellblade ability equipped on any other job and use any Spellblade spell whose associated level has been attained by the Mystic Knight. Therefore, to be able to use all Spellblade spells as a non-Mystic Knight, a character must level their Mystic Knight job up to level 6. Spellblade is the primary ability for Mystic Knights, who can use all Spellblade spells without the need to attain a spell's associated level first.

The Spellblade ability requires 20 AP for level 1, 30 for level 2, 50 for level 3, 70 for level 4, 100 for level 5 400 for level 6.

Mechanics[]

The Mystic Knight's Spellblade allows them to charge their weapon with various Black Magic spells, as well as couple White Magic spells. Spellblade requires the player to have the spell in question to use it. Spellblades ignore the target's Defense and the reflect status. The Spellblade skillset is mostly made up of elemental spells, but also includes four status-inflicting spells (Poison, Silence, Sleep, and Petrify) and two support spells (Drain and Osmose).

Status effect charged blades will incur that status 100% of the time as long as the attack connects and the target is not immune. If the player uses Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Bio, or Holy on their Spellblade, their attack may act as an instant death attack against enemies weak to that element. Spellblade is disabled if the user is silenced.

Spellblade works when the user is equipped with knives, swords, knight swords, or short swords.

The learnable spells are divided into six levels, and the advanced Spellblade techniques are some of the most powerful methods of destruction in the game. The effect lasts until the end of battle even if the character was KO'd and revived.

Spellblade only requires the player to spend MP once, then they can attack without it using any.

Any job equipped with Spellblade Level 1 will gain their character's base Freelancer Strength +4 and Magic -9 if their default stats are lower. For each additional Spellblade level up to level 6, the Strength and Magic bonuses are increased by 2 per level, for a maximum of +14 Strength and +1 Magic at Spellblade Level 6. Upon mastery, Freelancers and Mimes gain the Mystic Knight's base stats unless they already have a higher base from another mastered job. They will also gain Magic Shell as an innate support ability.
