Sleep in Final Fantasy.

A spellblade technique that disrupts circadian rhythms, sending the targets into immediate slumber.

Sleep (スリプル, Suripuru?, lit. Sleepel), also called Slep, is a recurring magic spell in the Final Fantasy series, usually in the Black Magic category, that inflicts the status of the same name, which renders the affected unable to act until awoken. It is usually one of the earliest Black Magic spells obtained. Some games have an upgraded versions of the spell, called Sleepga.

Description

Sleep (SLEP on the NES and Sleep1 in Final Fantasy Origins) is a Level 1 Black Magic spell that can be bought in Cornelia and can be learned by the Black Mage, Black Wizard, Red Mage, Red Wizard, and Ninja job classes. It inflicts Sleep on all enemies and has a low success rate.

In the Dawn of Souls and subsequent releases, the spell costs 3 MP to cast. Sleep can be cast by Ogre Mage, Beholder, Rakshasa, Water Naga, Spirit Naga, Astos, and Lich.

Final Fantasy II[]

Puts foes to sleep.

Description

Sleep is a Black Magic spell which puts one or all enemies to sleep. The success rate increases with the spell's level. Any character can learn Sleep by having them use the Sleep Tome (Sleep Scroll in the Origins release).

Sleep Tome
Effect Allows the target to learn Sleep when used outside of battle. Casts Sleep VIII on all enemies when used in battle.

Sleep IV can be cast by Goblin Prince, Magician, and Ogre Mage; Sleep VI is exclusive to Specter; and Sleep XVI is exclusive to Vampire Lady.

Final Fantasy III[]

Sleep is a Level 1 Black Magic spell that has an accuracy of 15% and can be bought for 100 gil at Kazus, Tozus, and the Vikings' Cove, while a free one can be found in the Altar Cave. It can also be used through the item Sheep Pillow. The enemy Pugman is capable of using the spell against the party.

Description

Sleep is a Black Magic spell learned by Rydia (level 8 as a child and initially as an adult). It has a casting time of 3, and costs 12 MP in the 2D versions, and 15 MP in the 3D versions. It can also be cast by using the Sleep Blade as an item.

It has an accuracy of 50% in 2D versions (55% in 3D versions). The spell is more effective the higher the caster's Agility. Hiroyuki Ito is the only enemy to cast the spell, and only on himself.

In the Easy Type version, the casting time was reduce to 2.

Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-[]

Sleep is a Black Magic spell. It is initially known by imposter Rydia, Palom, and Rydia. It inflicts Sleep to one or all enemies at the cost of 12 MP.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

Sleep is a Black Magic spell learned initially by Fusoya, Palom, Rydia, Biggs, and the Black Mage, and Leonora (level 22). It costs 12 MP to cast.

Final Fantasy V[]

Sleep is a level 2 Black Magic spell, bought in Karnak and Crescent for 300 gil. It costs 3 MP to cast. Sleep can be cast by Ricard Mage, Siren, and Sleepy. It can be utilized by catching and releasing a Sleepy. Sleep is one of the spells that can be cast from the Wonder Wand for free.

Final Fantasy VI[]

Sleep is an Effect spell that cost 5 MP to cast. It can be learned through Siren at a x10 rate. It has a 111 Hit rate and is vulnerable to Runic. Sleep can be cast by Level 40 Magic, Level 70 Magic, Magic, Wizard, Abaddon, and Intangir.

Sleep is an Added Ability to the Zwill Crossblade weapon.

Final Fantasy VII[]

Sleepel is automatically on the Seal Materia and costs 8 MP to cast and has 72% base accuracy. Seal Materia can be purchased in Junon for 3,000 gil. The enemies Eligor, SOLDIER:3rd, Crown Lance, Bahba Velamyu, Ironite, and Goblin, as well as the bosses Godo, Bizarro∙Sephiroth, and Helletic Hojo, all use the spell against the party.

Final Fantasy VII Remake[]

Sleep is the first ability of Binding Materia Binding Materia, costing 5 MP to cast. It inflicts Sleep to one target for a period of time, and never misses, but has a chance to fail.

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Sleep can be drawn from several early enemies and can be junctioned to stats, as well as to either inflict or resist against the Sleep status effect. Casting Sleep in battle increases compatibility with Doomtrain by 1 and with Siren by 0.6, but lowers compatibility with Cerberus and Carbuncle by 0.2.

Final Fantasy IX[]

Sleep is a Black Magic spell available to Vivi learned from the Flame Staff. It costs 10 MP to cast, and can be learned for 20 AP. The spell has a 50% accuracy. It can be reflected and works with Return Magic. Sleep can be used by both Abomination and Grimlock against the player party.

Final Fantasy X[]

Sleep is an enemy ability used by Yunalesca. It puts a single target to sleep.

Final Fantasy X-2[]

Sleep is part of the Dark Knight's Arcana skill set, however it is not learned via the dressphere, only becoming available when equipping the Dream Shock accessory or the Garment Grid Restless Sleep.

Sleep can also be used via Yuna's Festivalist dressphere ability Flare Sandals. Sleep can be cast by Duo, Elma, Insect Matriarch, Tonberry (Oversoul), and Watcher-S.

Sleep is a Black Magic spell available to Black Mages, Red Mages, Dark Knights, and Geomancers. Scholars are also able to use this spell while under the effects of Addendum: Black or Enlightenment. It is the first, fastest casting, shortest in duration, and easiest of all Sleep spells to obtain. It may be purchased from a vendor for 2,600 gil or less, depending on fame.


Final Fantasy XII[]

Sleep is used to put one foe to sleep. It has 60% base chance to inflict the target, but is affected by the caster's magick power and the target's vitality. A group-cast version of the spell, Sleepga, also exists.

In the original PlayStation 2 version, Sleep is a Green Magick. The Zodiac versions lists Sleep as Black Magick license 4, and so is now also part of Shades of Black. Sleep costs 30 LP and consumes 10 MP to cast. In the original version, the spell can be bought in Rabanastre and Bhujerba and Dyce for 700 gil after the events following entering Ondore's Estate. In the Zodiac versions, it is found in a chest in Dreadnought Leviathan Starboard Section (southwest), or Ogir-Yensa Sandsea Platform 1 East Tanks (second oil rig walkway), and can be used by the Red Battlemage and Black Mage.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Sleep appeared as an ability in the original version. At the initial release, Sleep was a Conjurer spell available for use at Rank 32 and it cost 3 action points to set. The ability inflicted sleep to all enemies within an area of effect. After the release of patch 1.20, Sleep became a Thaumaturge spell available at level 42 and targeted a single enemy instead.

Sleep would appear in the relaunch as a Thaumaturge ability available at level 10, also usable by Black Mages. The ability initially inflicted the sleep status to a single target for a period of 30 seconds, having a cast time of 2.5 seconds and a cooldown time of 2.5 seconds. The spell was enhanced to an area-of-effect ability once the player learned the Deep Sleep trait at level 36. The trait was later removed, with the area-of-effect added by default.

Sleep became a role ability with the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, allowing other Magical DPS jobs to use it, including Arcanist/Summoner, Red Mage, and Blue Mage.

Sleep is a Red Magic spell exclusive to viera, learned from the Estoc for 200 AP. It costs 10 MP to cast, has a range of 4 with a vertical reach of 2, and can be stolen through the ability Steal: Ability. It is susceptible to Return Magic.

Final Fantasy Adventure[]

The Slep spell put all monsters on screen to sleep for a limited length of time. However, some monsters are immune to it, and some enemies will continue to attack by weapons or magic while under the spell. It is obtained by defeating Mr. Lee in Kett, costs 1 MP to cast.

The Final Fantasy Legend[]

Sleep is an ability that has 10 uses and inflicts Sleep on a group of enemies. This ability is used by P-Flower, Ogre, Demon, Spector, DemoKing, Titan, and DarkRose.

A Magic Book called Sleep appears with a book icon before its name. It cast Sleep, and can be bought in Town of Hero, Undersea Town, and Hidden Town for 500 GP. It only has 20 uses, and inflicts Sleep to one group of enemies.

Final Fantasy Legend II[]

Sleep is a status inflicting ability that has 15 uses, it also increases a Robot's HP by 9. It inflicts Slep to one group of enemies. This ability can be used by DemoLoad, Demon, Fairy, Fiend, Giant, Imp, Mephisto, Nymph, O-Bake, Ogre, Phantom, Sprite, Sylph, Wraith, and Ashura.

A Magic Book called Sleep appears with a book icon before its name. It cast Sleep, and can be bought in numerous towns across the various worlds for 6800 GP. It only has 30 uses, and also increases a Robot's HP by 45 when equipped on them. It inflicts Slep to one group of enemies.

Final Fantasy Legend III[]

Sleep is a Black Magic spell that can inflict Sleep on an enemy or cure an the sleep condition. It cost 8 MP to use, and it can be bought for 400 GP in Dharm (Present).

There is also an enemy attack that also goes by the name of Sleep, this ability doesn't cost any MP to use and also inflicts Sleep to one enemy. This ability is used by Tomtom, Jerrit, Maitie, and Spectrat.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light[]

Sleep is a Dark Magic spell and costs 2 AP to cast. Sleep can be given to any character by having a Sleep Tome in the character's inventory. The spell can only be purchased in Guera and Urbeth for 500 gil.

Sleep is also a level 2 Sword Magic. It imbues a weapon with the status ailment sleep for ten turns and has a 75% chance to cause sleep in one target when attacking.
