Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry
The Skull Dragon is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. It is one of the eight legendary dragons, and is the dragon of the Poison element. Skull Dragon is found in Kefka's Tower, along the path taken by the third party. Despite what its appearance might suggest, the Skull Dragon is not an undead enemy. As with the other dragons, it is re-fought in the Dragons' Den bonus dungeon in the Advance and subsequent releases.

Battle
First battle
Almost all of the Skull Dragon's attacks are status attacks. During its first three turns it either uses a normal attack, Doom, or Will o' the Wisp. On its fourth turn the Skull Dragon targets a random party member and uses Disaster on them, inflicting Blind, Imp, Doom, Silence, Confuse, and Float.
Strategy
Ribbons will nullify much of the threat it poses, and Safety Bits and Memento Rings will negate Doom.
There are two options to kill the Skull Dragon. The first is to use normal attack spells like Firaga, Holy, and Ultima to deplete its HP. The second is to use Rasp to damage its MP, as compared to the other eight legendary dragons Skull Dragon's MP is low. If the player comes in with their party members already low on MP and uses Osmose, it is possible to sap most of Skull Dragon's MP in the first turn. The Rasp spell is even more effective.
Second battle
As with the other dragons, the Skull Dragon has been upgraded when faced in Dragons' Den. This time the player must deplete all of its MP to kill it, as depleting its HP will only cause it to regenerate. Since it has 14,000 MP this will take a while. As before, most of its attacks are status inflicting abilities.
Its new attack, Fear, inflicts Zombie. It uses Lv5 Death.
When defeated, the Seal of Darkness is broken and the player receives Gogo's ultimate weapon, the Scorpion Tail. It is not possible to kill Skull Dragon with Joker's Death; if one rolls 7-7-7 on Setzer's Slot, the dragon will regenerate.
Strategy
Ribbons are again useful. One should ensure the party members are immune LV5 Death. The party needs repeatedly cast Rasp, then drain its MP with Osmose when a party member's MP runs low.
