Siren (セイレーン, Seirēn?) is a recurring summon in the Final Fantasy series often portrayed as a beautiful woman who plays a harp. Her attacks usually focus on inflicting Silence on the opponent, but they sometimes also do minor damage.

Siren is one of the first four magicite obtained, and appears as an Esper. Her attack, Lunatic Voice (Hope Song in the original version), costs 16 MP, and has a Hit Rate of 136 casting Silence on all enemies. As a magicite, she teaches Sleep (x10), Silence (x8), Slow (x7) and Fire (x6). On level up, she provides a +10% boost to HP.
Siren has three sprites: in the North American version of the SNES release, her exposed rear was censored. All of the censorship present in the SNES version was lifted for the PlayStation version, showing the original Japanese sprite. A third sprite was used in the Advance release (shown above), less revealing than the original Japanese sprite, and more revealing than the original American sprite.
Final Fantasy VIII

Siren is a Guardian Force obtained by drawing from Elvoret at the top of the Dollet Radio Tower during the SeeD field exam. If the player misses Siren, they can draw it from Tri-Point in the final dungeon.
She is the weakest offensive Guardian Force and focuses on status effects: her Silent Voice inflicts non-elemental damage and Silence on all opponents, she learns status attack and defense junctions and a command ability that heals a party member from status ailments, and she has a refine ability that lets one create status healing items from monster spoils. Her other unique abilities are Mag Bonus, that yields a permanent stat boost upon level up; Move-Find that lets the player see hidden save and draw points; and refine abilities for making curative magic and magic stones and other tools.
Her compatibility item is Silence Powder and her compatibility is also boosted by casting status ailment spells in battle. Her opposing Guardian Force whose summoning deducts her compatibility the most is Carbuncle. Her Triple Triad card is won from the Pub Manager in Dollet.
Final Fantasy XI
Siren appears as a non-summonable avatar in the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel storyline. Her title is The Forgotten Avatar. The player battles Siren who was being controlled by a masked man. During the battle, Siren uses songs like a Bard. She still has her Lunatic Voice which inflicts Silence, but her worst attack is Entice, which charms all players in an area of effect.

In-game Description
Siren is the Rank 2 Water Aerial summon. Her normal attack, Kickline Dance, has the ability to inflict Stop, but she has no special attack. Her appearance follows that of the Sprite enemy in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
Final Fantasy XIII

Siren makes a minor appearance during the Pompa Sancta in Nautilus Park. Also, there is an area of Eden named Siren Park, which is aptly named after the Siren whom appeared during the Pompa Sancta.
Alongside the mascot used in Nautilus Park alongside Carbuncle, Ramuh, Valefor and Ifrit, a fal'Cie by the same name also existed, a statue of this fal'Cie was seen in Bodhum during a flashback where Serah Farron tells Snow Villiers that she is a Pulse l'Cie.
Siren, alongside Carbuncle, is the only fal'Cie to also share its name with a mascot in Nautilus Park. Ramuh also originally shared its name with a fal'Cie, however the Ramuh fal'Cie was not included in Final Fantasy XIII in the end.
Final Fantasy Legends II

Merchandise
Siren from Final Fantasy VIII has appeared in some merchandise. The Guardian Forces featured in action figures with two versions available, translucent and colored. Siren's translucent version is green. Siren's action figure includes a harp and a Cactuar figure. The Japanese version of the action figure also includes the arm part of Ragnarok; if one collected all the Guardian Force figures, they could use the parts to assemble a Ragnarok. Some of the Guardian Forces also appeared alongside the player party members in limited edition statues Transcendent Artists Collection: Final Fantasy VIII; Siren appears with Rinoa.
Etymology
Sirens are from Greek mythology. In the story of Odysseus, the Sirens are beautiful women who lure sailors with their voices. Odysseus escaped the Sirens by having all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax. He was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so he let himself be tied to the mast to ensure he could not fall victim to their voices.
