Its shell deflects physical attacks well. Tentacles absorb magic attacks. Defeat tentacles first, then force it from its shell with fire magic. Absorbs water-based attacks.

Scan description

Sinspawn Geneaux is the third Sinspawn encountered in Final Fantasy X, left behind after Sin attacks Kilika. It is assisted by two tentacles that sprout from the ground on either side of the player party.

Battle[]

Boss-Sinspawn-Geneaux-staccato

Staccato.

Geneaux will alternate between doing nothing and damaging the party with Sigh, while the tentacles intercept any spells directed at it, including group-attack spells like Demi. Geneaux initially takes little damage from physical attacks, but once the tentacles are defeated, it becomes vulnerable to magic, particularly Fire-elemental spells. When its HP drops past 2,400, the shell will open and Geneaux will instead attack with Venom, which damages the party member with the highest HP and inflicts Poison; Water, which targets the party member with the lowest HP; and Staccato, which damages the party. At this stage, it is susceptible to physical attacks.

Strategy[]

To kill the tentacles quickly, it is best to have Valefor's Overdrive gauge filled and use Energy Ray. If Valefor's Strength is high enough, it also makes Sinspawn Geneaux come out of its shell. If it does not, a couple of Fire spells should work.

If the player does not want to or is unable to use this strategy, they can attack the tentacles with physical attacks and Fire spells (the tentacles do not absorb magic directed at themselves).

After Sinspawn Geneaux comes out of its shell, its Water spells can be countered with Wakka's Silence Attack or Yuna's NulTide spell. The Poison from Venom can be cured using an Antidote or Esuna. Now that it can be hit physically, Tidus and Wakka should be able to finish the battle easily.

Etymology[]

In a religious context, sin is the act of violating God's will. Sin can also be viewed as anything that violates the ideal relationship between an individual and God; or as any diversion from the perceived ideal order for human living. To sin has been defined as "to miss the mark".
