Shiva and Ifrit is a story from Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. The story is about the spirits of fire and ice, Ifrit and Shiva, both boasting about who is stronger. They decided to prove their strength by stopping travelers from gathering fruits from the great tree, but in the end both did not manage to do so.
Volume 1: Lunging for LasansEdit
Once upon a time, there existed Shiva, the spirit of ice, and Ifrit, the spirit of fire.
One day, Ifrit boasted,
"Fire has the power to incinerate anything in the entire world! nothing is mightier than flame!"
Shiva coolly responded,
"But ice has the power to freeze anything in the entire world! there couldn't possibly be anything greater"
"Never! Fire melts away ice with ease!" retorted Ifrit.
"But fire is merely extinguished by the water that runs off from the ice."
The two spirits eyed one another for a moment, and then Ifrit declared,
"Very well, then! We shall have a contest to see which is the strongest! Travelers should soon arrive at the great tree to gather lasans. Whoever can cause them the most trouble shall be declared the victor!"
And the contest began between Shiva and Ifrit...
Epilogue 1: HellfireEdit
Travelers began arriving at the great tree to collect the precious lasans, so Shiva and Ifrit began their contest in hopes of victory- and shooing off the invaders.
However, any flames hurled by Ifrit were extinguished by Shiva's ice. Similarly, any travelers frozen by Shiva's ice were thawed out again by the heat of Ifrit's flame.
Due to this, the travelers were able to steal away all the precious lasans they desired, much to the furious anger of the spirits.
"This is all your fault!"
"No I believe it is your fault!"
"What?! How dare you!"
Writhing in uncontrollable rage, Ifrit unleashed a mighty torrent of flame that engulfed the great tree and burnt it to the ground.
The two of them had allowed their silly argument to destroy was what most important to them.
Epilogue 2: Nobody knowsEdit
Shiva and Ifrit continued fighting as the travelers arrived at the great tree. Ignored by the spirits, they had no trouble snatching up all the lasans.
"This is all your fault!" yelled Ifrit.
"You always talk to me like that, you-"
"Shut yer trap!"
Lost in rage, Shiva unleashed an endless barrage of ices while Ifrit countered with a raging firestorm.
Their battle lasted for three days and three nights. Finally the sun rose on the forth day...
Surrounding the great tree was a glistening pond of water formed from fire-melted ice.
But where did Shiva and Ifrit go? To this very day nobody knows...
Epilogue 3: HandshakeEdit
While the two spirits fought, the travelers had no trouble snatching up all the lasans.
After seeing this, Shiva and Ifrit began to battle even more fiercely than before. Their fighting went on and on until they both grew weary.
Just at that moment...
The great tree had begun to wither after being bombarded by ice and fire.
"We have to do something!"
"Fine! I'll help!"
The two worked together to create a warm pool of water made from melted ice. They poured it onto the tree and restored its health.
"Thank goodness you noticed in time."
"But I couldn't have done it without you."
The two shook hands. Then something truly miraculous happened!
The carbon dioxide given off by Ifrit's inferno was frozen by Shiva's power and turned into dry ice!
Using dry ice, which is far colder than normal ice, the two were able to preserve the fruit of the great tree for ever and ever.
The aim is to slide the chocobo to catch falling lasans while avoiding the fire and ice.
The players must compete against each other for the highest score.
The chocobo has three lives must catch as many falling lasans as possible.

Volume 2: Leaping for LuchillesEdit
Although there had been a time when Shiva and Ifrit argued about anything and everything, the two had finally made amends and became the best of friends. They had also come to terms with each other's strength.
"Ice is incredibly useful! Nothing is better when storing food."
"No, fire is much more useful. Food is so much more delicious when cooked!"
"But ice glimmers so beautifully in the light! Nothing can compare."
But without fire, there wouldn't be any light! Surely fire is most beautiful."
Ifrit grew a bit perturbed by how Shiva was responding to his comments.
"You do know that when complemented, it's only polite to accept it, right?"
"I was just trying to be nice!"
"Just be quiet! Ice is best!"
"No, fire is best!"
"Let's settle this with a contest again! The winner gets to decide who is best, once and for all. This time, we'll use those travelers who have come for luchilles."
"Sounds good to me!"
"It won't be so easy this time, though. These travelers have magical cloaks that allow them to fly!"
"No problems here!"
And so the contest began yet again between Shiva and Ifrit...
Epilogue 1: BittersweetEdit
Shiva and Ifrit both did their best to get in the way of the travelers.
However, the skilled travelers had no problem gathering up all the luchilles they wanted.
Upon seeing this, Ifrit's expression turned into one of utter disbelief. Then he suddenly called out.
"Haha! You fools! Those luchilles aren't even ripe yet! Their tartness will make you eyes water!
"Take them! We don't mind!"
Even as the two spirits laughed openly, they knew the real fact of the matter in their hearts.
Those luchilles were perfectly ripe. And plenty delicious.
"Those... fools... yeah.."
"How could they be... so stupid?"
After sharing a quick grin, Shiva looked to the side and let out an ice-cold sigh of discontent.
Epilogue 2: CelebrationEdit
''Shiva and Ifrit both did their best to get in the way of travelers.
However the skilled travelers had no problem gathering up all the luchilles they wanted.
"I think it's safe to say who got the best of us," said Ifrit, pointing at the victorious travelers.
"I can't argue with that. They took all our precious fruit."
"Looks like the jokes on us"
Ifrit let out a great sigh and Shiva began laughing. The fiery spirit resigned himself as well, and the pair shared a hearty chuckle.
Shiva laughed so hard she cried. The teardrops were heated by Ifrit's flames and evaporated into the sunlight.
Suddenly, a great rainbow appeared and stretched across the heavens.
It was almost as if the rainbow glistened in silent celebration of the bond between the two spirits.
Epilogue 3: FriendshipEdit
The travelers easily dodged the incongruous assault from Shiva and Ifrit and made away with all the luchilles.
"I can't believe it..."
"All our precious fruit..."
The two spirits wept in sadness.
Then, something truly miraculous happened!
The teardrops of Shiva and Ifrit transformed into sparkling jewels!
Ifrit's red tears came to be known as rubies.
Rubies are the stones of passion, gaining this trait from the intense feeling of losing the luchilles.
Shiva's tears came to be known as sapphires.
Sapphires are stones of sincerity, reflecting emotions not of conflict, but of cooperation.
The two offered each other the jewels as a sign of their everlasting friendship.
Thanks to the sapphires, Ifrit was able to keep from being so hot-headed all the time.
Thanks to the rubies, Shiva was able to become a bit more enthusiastic.
The basic idea of this game is to launch the chocobo into the air to snatch as many luchilles as possible while avoiding the fire and ice.
In this mode, the player has a thirty second time limit and must aim to beat the enemy's score.
The player must collect as many luchilles as possible and can only hit fire or ice three times before the trial ends.
