FFXIV Shisui of the Violet Tides 02

Shisui of the Violet Tides opening cinematic.

Nestled on the sands of the Turquoise Trench, a thousand thousand fathoms below the surface of the Ruby Sea, is Shisui of the Violet Tides. A resplendent palace erected by Raen refugees who fled underwater to escape the constant wars that raged upon the land, its unique beauty is nigh unparalleled. The light, however, quickly fades from its once-peaceful halls as sinister wraiths from the void pour forth, seizing the souls of all its occupants, including that of the Ruby Princess. Now, none but the Warrior of Light can save Shisui of the Violet Tides from the darkness that threatens to engulf it whole...

Progression[]

Upon entering the dungeon, the party will traverse the front yard of the Palace. Defeating the group of enemies will activate a geyser that can be used to progress. There are blue Ango's antennae buried in the ground, that trigger when stepped upon and deal slight damage.

The party will then reach upon the first boss, Amikiri. The boss will attempt to "preserve energy" by binding a random party member and lift itself up, exposing its legs. It has an extremely long cast time, and the legs can be targeted to trip the boss over, leaving it immobile and vulnerable for a good amount of time. Press the attack during this time as it has a Vulnerability Up debuff when this happens. The boss will get back to its feet and the fight continues. An add named Kamikuri will spawn. The add will prepare Digest as it moves, an AoE that should be spread and will leave a hazardous puddle of water for a few seconds while dealing moderate damage to the whole party. It is possible to cancel this spell by killing Kamikuri as soon as possible. A few seconds later, the boss will attempt to "preserve energy" again, while Kamikuri will spawn at the same time. Due to the very long cast time, it is recommended to defeat Kamikuri first before the legs, and again, leave it vulnerable.

Upon defeating Amikiri, the party heads inside the palace. Greeted upon them is a hallway and a closed eastern-style sliding door. It is recommended that the Tank approaches the door; as the Palace Guards inside will target whoever approaches first. Defeat them as necessary before moving on to meet another group, and then the gardens, in which The Captain of the Guards will command her guards to attack the party from afar while a few guards rush at the person who approached the door first. Approach the ranged units close enough, and they will halt the assault and retreat inside the room, ready to engage the party.

Once defeated, the party will be greeted with the second boss, the Ruby Princess. Spread across the room are four peculiar glittering boxes that will turn a player into an old woman when touched. This will be used to render you immune to Seduce, in which the boss will prepare Cordolis Kick to heavily damage those unfortunate to be seduced. The boss will then prepare Abbysal Inferno towards two DPS players (or whoever is alive). The targeted players must run away from the exploding pillars that will chase them. The boss will prepare a Cordolis Kick at the same time, forcing the players to stay on the outer edge. Do not touch the peculiar box at any point other than to dodge Seduce.

Upon defeating the Ruby Princess, the party jumps down into water onto the backyards to engage powerful crabs, lizards, octopus and sharks. Puffer bombs will roam around the open space to annoy players. Dodge them while whittling down the mobs.

The party will then reach the final boss and the source of the whole incident, a voidsent called Shisui Yohi. She will hide herself in water with Thick Fog, while Churn adds will spawn. Defeat them quickly, and then wait for the boss to reappear while avoiding the direction of the puddles, as the boss will burst out from there. Avoid the gaze attack by turning around, and then shark adds will appear. Do not be intimidated with the telegraphs and just defeat them quickly. The boss will repeat these mechanics until she dies, completing the duty.

The princess then appears to present the party with a peculiar box as thanks for the hard work... which unsurprisingly, turns you into an old woman when you touch it as well, startling the princess.

Etymology[]

The kanji 紫水 (Shisui?) literally translates to "violet tides".

Elements of the dungeon are inspired by the Japanese fairytale of Urashima Tarō, such as the opening of the treasure box that turns him into an old man.
