Shieldbearer (盾装備可能, Tate Sōbi Kanō?, lit. Equip Shield), also known as Equip Shields, is a recurring ability in the series, primarily appearing in the Ivalice Alliance set of games. It allows the equipped user to equip any shield, regardless of class and adding to many weaker classes durability such as the Black Mage and White Mage.

Shieldbearer is an ability learned by the Soldier, Mog Knight, Sage, Warrior, and Fencer classes. The Soldier, Mog Knight, and Warrior classes learn it from the Bronze Shield and Opal Shield for 300 AP, while the Sage learns it from the Round Shield for 300 AP, and the Fencer learns it from the Bronze Shield and Round Shield for 300 AP.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the RiftEdit

TA2 Shieldbearer returns as an ability learned by the Soldier, Moogle Knight, Sage, Warrior, and Fencer classes, in addition to the Viking and Raptor classes. It is learned for 150 AP from the Platinum Shield by the Raptor and Viking, for 150 AP from the Bronze Shield by the Fencer, Warrior, and Soldier, and for 150 AP from the Round Shield by the Moogle Knight and Sage.

EtymologyEdit

A shield bearer was usually a lightly armored soldier who often accompanied a soldier of a higher rank with a protective shield.
