Serpent Rod (蛇のロッド, Hebi no Roddo?) is a recurring rod in the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy XII[]

Serpent Rod is the second weakest rod in the original PlayStation 2 version, providing 34 Attack, 6 Evade, +10 MP, +2 Magick, 33 CT, and is ice-elemental. It requires the Rods 1 License to equip, and can be bought for 2,100 gil at Rabanastre, Jahara, and Mt Bur-Omisace, found in Paramina Rift (Freezing Gorge), dropped from Viper (1% chance), and rewarded for completing the Hunt "A Ring in the Rain".

In the Zodiac versions, it now provides 25 Attack, 6 Evade, +2 Magick, and 33 CT, is still ice-elemental and requires the Rods 1 license for 20 LP. It can be bought for 1,250 gil at Rabanastre, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan, found at Lhusu Mines (Site 2), and still very rarely drops from Viper (1% rate), and is rewarded for completing the Croakadile hunt.

Etymology[]

The serpent, or snake, is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. The word is derived from Latin serpens, a crawling animal. Snakes have been associated with some of the oldest rituals known to humankind and represent dual expression of good and evil.
