Shield allies from enemy attacks with enhanced defense

Paradigm description

Sentinel is a role in Final Fantasy XIII-2 whose main function is to shield allies from enemy attacks. Serah and Noel start with Sentinel, but Noel is usually more proficient in it. There are also numerous Paradigm Pack monsters that serve as Sentinels. Lightning in the "Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess" DLC scenario has a role based on the Sentinel called Knight.

Behind the scenes[]

A new form of guard has been added in Final Fantasy XIII-2: Element Guard. Elude, a guard from Final Fantasy XIII, has been removed.

Serah's and Noel's Sentinel skillsets are similar to Snow's and Fang's, respectively, from Final Fantasy XIII. Serah and Snow both learn Steelguard early, whereas Noel and Fang both learn Mediguard early. Furthermore, Serah and Snow are from Cocoon and Noel and Fang are from Gran Pulse.

Etymology[]

A sentinel is a person or thing that watches or stands as if watching.

The name of the item "Defender's Topaz", an item that boosts the Sentinel role bonus, comes from the Japanese name for Sentinel: Defender.
