Scylla/The Elder Staff
Scylla is a boss in Final Fantasy III. Once she is defeated the party receives the Elder Staff.
Stats
Battle
Scylla's main form of attacking is by using high-level spells such as Holy and Flare, many of which can deal heavy damage to the party if they are underleveled. She does not have a weakness so using strong attacks and well timed healing is essential to winning. In the original version, defeating Scylla earns the Ninja and Sage job roles.
3D Remake
In the 3D remakes, Scylla is more of a threat as her physical attacks can inflict Petrify, and she now has access to the Curaja and Thundaga spells. It is recommended to have a Sage to heal every turn while a Scholar uses any attack items available, one or two Ninjas attack, and the fourth party member either on standby for backup healing or as additional damage dealing support.

Etymology
Greek mythology, Scylla was a horrible sea monster with four eyes, six long necks equipped with grisly heads, each of which contained three rows of sharp teeth. Her body consisted of twelve tentacle-like legs and a cat's tail and with four to six dog-heads ringing her waist. She was one of the children of Phorcys and Ceto.
