FFIII NES Scholar

The Scholar is a job class in Final Fantasy III. It is gained from the Fire Crystal. Using their analytical prowess, scholars are able to ascertain an enemy's HP and any existing weakness. They also use the mystic power of ancient tomes to damage enemies. Their extensive knowledge allows them to double the effects of items they use.

Scan checks the enemy's weaknesses, while Peep checks their HP. Due to the fact that White Mages are able to cast Libra, the Peep ability is most often left alone.

  • Special Ability - Study, White and Black Magic Levels 1-3, and items used by the Scholar have their potency doubled.

Study not only reveals an enemy's HP and weaknesses, but it also removes any beneficial status effects on it, similar to the effect of the Black Magic Erase. All items used by the scholar have doubled potency, although this works only in battle, as items used in the menu screen are not used by a specific character.
