Dycedarg, a Rune Knight in Final Fantasy Tactics.

Rune Knight (ルーンナイト, Rūn Naito?), also known as the Lune Knight, is a job class used briefly in the Final Fantasy series. Rune Knights possess sword abilities and many magic spells.

Final Fantasy VI[]

Celes Chere's job was removed from the North American Super Nintendo version. Within the Final Fantasy III Nintendo Player's Guide, her job is given as Rune Knight. The English Game Boy Advance version retained the job titles and Celes is a Rune Knight. She is a general in the Gestahlian Empire, practices as a Rune Knight. She can cast a whole host of offensive and defensive spells. Her Runic Blade command allows her to absorb spells with her sword.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

Dycedarg Beoulve is a Rune Knight (Lune Knight on the PlayStation). Rune Knights are elite knights who wear armor inscribed with magick runes of ancient and mysterious power. They have access to four level three magic spells, and also nine Swordplay abilities.

Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade[]

The Rune Knight is a job available after obtaining a level five Paladin and a level five Mystic Knight. The preferred weapons for the job are greatswords and swords. The job specializes in both intelligence and strength abilities.

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]

Rune Knight is a common job in War of the Visions, being the primary job of Howlet and Rairyuu (Halloween). It specializes in MAG based Slash Damage attacks. The job's active and passive skills have a heavy focus on self-debilitation in exchange for greater power, such as consuming HP for powerful attacks, or weakening their own resistances for more offense. It is in essence the Magic equivalent of the Soldier job.

Characters with access to the Rune Knight as a sub-job include Cadia, Ellshra, Kitone (Summer), Louelle, Moore the Merrier, Rayches, and Starlight Elena.

Celes has a unique version of the job known as the "Imperial Rune Knight", which utilizes group-wide support and debuffing abilities.

Etymology[]

Runes are the letters in a set of related alphabets known as runic alphabets, which were used to write various Germanic languages before the adoption of the Latin alphabet and for specialized purposes thereafter. Historic anthropology regarding the Germanic and Norse peoples that used runes also note that the language was also highly used in magical practices related to these cultures, whether it be in divination, enchantment, and incantation.
