An ordinary rod with no special traits. This is the first rod given to apprentice mages. Both rods and staves heighten a mage's spirit, but some of them have magical powers of their own. Thus beginners practice their magic with much less powerful weapons in order to avoid dangerous accidents caused by high concentrations of magical energy.
The Rod returns in the sequel of Final Fantasy IV, and it functions the same way it did in the former game. It can only be gotten from the Tiny Mage, and can be equip by Rydia, Rydia?, and Palom.
The Rod returns once again, and has the same stats as the previous two games. But this time around, it also grants +2 to Intelligence. It can be bought in Mysidia, Tomra, Kaipo for 100 gil. The Tiny Mage, Sorceress, Ricardo Mage, and Lamage can drop this as well. Rydia, Palom, Leonora, Harley, and Golbez can equip this weapon.
The Rod has an attack power of 5 and a hit rate of 8, and grants +1 to Magic. Rod deals full damage from the back row. It can be bought in Carwen and Tule for 200 gil, dropped from Mani Wizard or stolen from Ricard Mage. Rods can be equipped by Freelancers, Black Mages, Time Mages, Blue Mages, Red Mages, Summoners, Mimes and Necromancers.
