The Black Robe.

Robes (ローブ, Roobu?) are a recurring type of body armor in the series. They are often used exclusively by magic-based jobs, like the White Mage, the Black Mage, and the Summoner. Examples of recurring robes in the series are the White Robe, the Black Robe, the Luminous Robe, and the Lordly Robes.

Robes appear as armor for the Black Mage and White Mage classes.

Final Fantasy II[]

Only two robes appear:

Robes appear as a type of armor preferred by mage-type jobs.

Final Fantasy IV[]

Robes can be equipped by Tellah, Porom, Palom, Rosa, Rydia, and Fusoya, though they are sometimes exclusive to some of these characters.

Final Fantasy V[]

Icon. Robes can be equipped by magic-based jobs, such as White Mages, Black Mages, Time Mages, Summoners, Blue Mages, Red Mages, Chemists, Geomancers, Bards, Dancers, Oracles, Cannoneers, Necromancers, and Mimes.

Final Fantasy VI[]

Robes can be equipped by Terra, Celes, Mog, Gogo, Strago, and Relm, although the best are exclusive to the latter three.

Final Fantasy IX[]

FFIX Robe Icon Robes can be equipped by mage characters like Dagger, Vivi, Eiko, and Quina.

Final Fantasy XI[]

A subclass of the "body" category of equipment, they usually include mage-oriented armor for all Mages, Puppetmasters, and Scholars. Jobs like Dark Knight and Monk can equip some robes, but there isn't much reason to.

Final Fantasy XII[]

Robes appear as mystic armor, and can be equipped by any character as long as they have purchased the necessary licenses. This is the weakest type of armor, defense-wise, but is good for mage characters, since it provides the greatest magick defense and magick power boosts.

Kytes and Ashe equip robes. They have high Magick Defense and low Defense.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

Robes can be equipped by mage jobs, as well as Knights.

Robes can be equipped by any magic-related jobs.
