"Rise" (ライズ ~機工城アレキサンダー:天動編~, Raizu ~Kikō-jō Arekisandā: Tendō-hen~?, lit. Rise ~Machine Castle Alexander: Geocentrism~) is a boss theme from Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, which plays when the party fights Alexander Prime.

It was composed and arranged by Masayoshi Soken, with the lyrics written and the vocals provided by Michael-Christopher Koji Fox.

Game appearances[]

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward[]

"Rise" does not start playing until Alexander Prime casts Divine Judgment in Alexander - The Soul of the Creator Alexander - The Soul of the Creator, with the earlier phase featuring "Moebius" which is an orchestral remix of "Metal" that also incorporates part of "Locus". When Alexander Prime casts Timegate and half of the party enters Entropy, the background music is "Out of Time" which is a highly distorted mix of "Locus". The "sonic boom" in the first line is timed to go off around the same time as the Divine Judgment cast.

"Rise" is track 39 on the The Far Edge of Fate: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers[]

"Rise (Journeys)" plays as the boss theme against Alexander Prime in The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate) The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate). It is taken from the Journeys: Final Fantasy XIV ~Arrangement Album~ and is track 3 on the Death Unto Dawn: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

Composition[]

"Rise" features heavily blurred scat-singing, rock instrumentation, and the sound of alarms. "Rise" appears to be in 4/4 time and includes lyrics in the Goblin language, in which an unknown character, perhaps Quickthinx Allthoughts or Schrodinger, encouraging the Illuminati to rise up against the Uplanders, in service to Alexander.

According to Soken, "Rise" contains profanity, though this is not clear in the official lyrics; it is possibly in the line "Cold dustin' the flustered is super-cali ????' tageous". When the song was remixed for the Pulse album, however, the lyrics were slowed down to the extent where this could be heard as 'Supercalifragacious'. The passage "A to the L to the E X ander / Gobbies gonna rise up, boom like thunder" was revealed at Fan Fest prior to the release of all of the lyrics.

The lyrics reveal discrepancies between the English and Japanese localizations of Final Fantasy XIV. The line "Son to the Father to the Maker's own way" suggests that the intended translation of "Alexander, the Creator" was "Alexander, the Maker", since the first two figures are Midas, the Son, and Gordias, the Father. The Illuminati are called the "Blue Hand", which explains the passages "Blue blazes, blue faces / Blue blood, blue truth gonna see you black and blue" and "Step back, the Blue's about to pull you under!"

Lyrics[]

The official lyrics were released on the The Far Edge of Fate: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

English
Sonic boom, rings loud from the engines
Ironclad murder gonna 'liminate the distance
Ain't no 'landers gonna take us (no)
Cold dustin' the flustered is super-cali ????' tageous
Slow down. (Stop!) Takin' no hits
'Cceleratin' past us. blast us. fit to transmit (son)
Son to the Father to the Maker's own way
There's a method to the metal on the metal highway (yo)
Keepin' up the pace. (What?) Keepin' with the quickness
Keep the lightning bottled, throttled, throttle to the finish
×2
Movin', soothin', got nothin' to prove and
Pushin' all your buttons with a button-pushing blue hand
Blue blazes, blue faces,
Blue blood, blue truth gonna see you black and blue (right)
Keepin' up the pace. (What?) Cruisin' with the quickness
Keep the lightning bottled, throttled, throttle to the finish
×2
Thirty thousand goblins gonna solve the goblins' problems, 'cause the
Problems of the goblins goin' rotten till they solve 'em, yeah the
Thirty thousand goblins gonna solve the goblins' problems, with a
'Splodin smashin' bashin' whackin' crackin' smackin' kind of chaos
A to the L to the E X ander
Gobbies gonna rise up, boom like thunder
Rise up and raise the iron roof off
Now, Rise up and riot 'til the bomb drops
Now, Rise up, the time is right to sound off, so
Rise with me, rise with me, rise with me (RISE UP!)
Rise with me, rise with me, rise with me (RISE UP!)
Rise with me, rise with me, rise with me RISE WITH ME
Step back, the Blue's about to pull you under!
