Republic of Bastok

The Republic of Bastok (Japanese: バストゥーク共和国 Basutūku kyōwakoku) is a city-state in Final Fantasy XI. Bastok is located in the southern portion of the continent of Quon, in the middle of the desert-like Gustaberg region.
Founded by the technologically-skilled Hume race, Bastok is a city of miners and craftsmen. Initially known for its mining of Mythril ore, recent advancements in mineral refining and processing by city engineer Cid have attracted a growing number of artisans and metal-workers. The city is governed by a president, elected from the ranks of the Hume population every few years.
The southern portion of the city is inhabited by the Galka, another humanoid race, who migrated there from Rabao. There is a great deal of social tension between the majority Hume and minority Galka populations of Bastok, and the Galka Iron Musketeers have long been at odds with the Royal Knights of San d'Oria
