Regis Lucis Caelum on his throne.

An act of love by the last king.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer

Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII[1] is a character from Final Fantasy XV and the father of Noctis Lucis Caelum. He is the 113th king of the royal family of Lucis, the last kingdom to control a crystal; Niflheim's army seeks to conquer Lucis, take its crystal, and end the reign of the Caelum family.

In the trailer revealed at the "Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere" in January 2011, Regis is shown sitting on his throne, pondering and talking to himself. He is also seen facing off against a mysterious white-robed man. Regis wields a falchion with an engine attached to its hilt and has the power to manipulate weapons; they all point menacingly towards the robed man opposing him. In the E3 2013 trailer, Regis is surrounded by Niflheim forces.

Personality

As shown in the E3 2013 trailer, King Caelum appears to be a somewhat laid back person as he ate green soup and showed his green tongue to his son to make him laugh.

Etymology

Regis Lucis Caelum is a Latin phrase that may mean "Sky of the King's Light" or "Sky of the Light's King". Regis and Noctis's naming follows thus a similar theme pertaining light and sky.

Trivia

  • A point of clarification concerns a sequence where Regis is seated on his throne early in a trailer (before the gameplay begins) and says something along the lines of "You're not fit to be king". While many assumed this statement was directed at Noctis, it is actually directed at someone else.
  • Regis's powers are similar to those of Noctis in the first few trailers of Final Fantasy XV. This may imply his powers could be passed on to his son.
