The Red Dragon is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. It is one of the Eight legendary dragons, and is the dragon of the Fire element. The Red Dragon is found in the Phoenix Cave, near the end of the dungeon. As with the other dragons, it is re-fought in the Dragons' Den bonus dungeon in the Advance and smartphone releases.

BattleEdit

First BattleEdit

The Red Dragon uses Fire-elemental spells, casting Fira and Fireball for much of the battle. When its HP drops to 10,240, the Red Dragon casts Flare and Firaga. It has an equal chance of using Southern Cross, Flare Star, or Level 4 Flare on regular intervals, the latter of which can be avoided at the correct levels. Blizzara and Blizzaga spells are effective against it, as is having Shadow throw Tridents. If the player attempts to use Reflect, the Red Dragon will use Eraser to remove it from the entire party.

Second BattleEdit

Red Dragon utilizes its life force to power itself up, and cannot be harmed by the player's attacks. Instead, the Red Dragon dies automatically if the party survives long enough for its life force to be completely drained. The dragon will constantly use powerful spells such as Flare, Flare Star, and Meltdown, and its physical attack can not only inflict high damage, but can be used several times in a row. It also uses a new special attack, called Red Fang, which inflicts Death. Before it dies, it casts Ultima followed by Flare in a final attack to finish off the party.

Shell, Protect, Reflect, and Celes's Runic are vital as is regular healing with Curaga. If a party member has Flame Shield equipped, the fire-based damage will become healing power. Casting Reraise on all party members is a good idea.

When the player wins, the Seal of Fire will be shattered, and the player will receive Terra's ultimate weapon, the Apocalypse.
