Selphie Slot "Rapture" from FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered

Rapture (レビテガ, Rebitega?, lit. Levitaga) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is a Limit Break used by Selphie Tilmitt.

Its name in Japanese is the -ga variant of the Float spell. The name of this ability is used in the Japanese Final Fantasy XII for the Float spell, indicating it is an area-of-effect ability even if a single-target ability doesn't exist.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Rapture is one of the possible Limit Breaks for Selphie's Slot. It is one of the rarer Limits with The End being even rarer. Once the game checks if the ability was successful, it attempts to eject all enemies.

Rapture never misses, but Grats, Vysages, Lefty, Righty, Cactuars, Tonberries, Esthar Soldier (Terminator) (although Selphie cannot fight them), UFO?, PuPu, and bosses are immune to it.

Etymology[]

In Christian eschatology the rapture refers to the belief that either before, or simultaneously with, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to Earth, believers who have died will be raised and believers who are still alive and remain shall be caught up together with them (the resurrected dead believers) in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
