Increase defense and parry rate. Parry while the ability is active to increase critical rate as well. A favorite among imperial knights.
Rampart is a Paladins ability. It becomes available at 62, which is an odd level for an ability to be given since most abilities are given at levels divisible by five. The ability is usable once every 5 minutes and will last a total of 30 seconds after being activated. During this time, it will raise nearby party members' Defense value noticeably.
Rampart also creates an amount of enmity that is comparable to Provoke, the Warrior Job ability. While this is true, Paladins would rarely if ever exclusively use an ability like Rampart to generate hate, even though they are a tank. They would still rely upon their Support Job, Warrior, for enmity-generating abilities.
Rampart is a Role Action common to all tanks learned at level 8. It reduces damage taken by 20% for 20 seconds, and has an instant cast time and a 90-second recast time.
Before the release of Stormblood, it was a Gladiator ability learned at level 2, with the same function.
Rampart is a Templar ability learned at Job Level 7. It costs 2 BP to use, and forms a shield around all allies that prevents one physical attack.
Rampart is a defensive wall or bank around a castle, fort or settlement.
